Trump's new reelection strategy? More coronavirus denial! The AP reports the plan is to excite his base by cheering the reopening, even as coronavirus surges. But he's articulating a position held by around 35% of voters in all key swing states. New piece:

Trump's campaign is betting that urging a rapid reopening will excite his base, the AP reports.

If so, his base is shriveling rapidly.

In the six swing states that will decide the election, support for Trump's stance is in the 30s. In all six of them:

Trump advisers are developing a strategy that is unabashedly about targeting a shrinking minority and expressly eschews trying to broaden his appeal.

1) The big story in the remarkable new NYT poll is that there is a genuine anti-Trump majority in this country.

On the seismic events rocking the country, majorities disapprove of Trump. These majorities are multi-racial and cut across age lines.

1) Trump's advisers are targeting a new scapegoat in order to shift blame away from his utterly catastrophic botching of coronavirus: The CDC.

This is deeply depraved on its own.

But there's a backstory here that simply must not get memory-holed.

2) When Trump urged the premature reopening of states, which has helped produce the current spikes, he was defying his own CDC's guidelines and his own government experts!

The idea that Trump and his advisers would now shift blame to them is laughable.

His aides conceded to one another that he had failed to bend reality to his will.

This could go down as an iconic moment.

But LBJ finally admitted he'd lost control of events. He declined to run for reelex.
