1/3 Joe Biden grossly overstating death tolls: a short thread

Yesterday Joe Biden claimed 120 million Americans had died from the Coronavirus, a number that was off by a mere 119.88 million
2/3

In February, Biden claimed that "150 million" Americans had been murdered with a gun since 2007, a number that was off by a factor of 1,000, or roughly 149.85 million
3/3

In 2014, Biden pegged the death toll from the 2011 Joplin, Missouri tornado at 161,000

This was more of an approximate figure, given that he was off by 160,839

Thread:

Here are the facts...
Federal aid to state and local law enforcement fell during the Obama-Biden Administration

Meanwhile, funding has gone up under the Trump Administration

The "cut" that Biden claims President Trump is trying to implement?

It's a proposal to move the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program to a different part of the Justice Department

DOJ specifically said this would "centralize and strengthen" aid to state & local LE

This is nonsense and an insult to the men and women at the CDC, HHS, and other public health agencies who have been working on coronavirus since early January

The CDC set up its incident management system for coronavirus on Jan 7
This was before the first death was even reported out of China, and during a period when the Chinese were still claiming there was "no evidence" the virus could spread between humans

nytimes.com/2020/01/10/wor…
To put this in perspective, when the CDC started responding to the coronavirus outbreak, the House still had not sent articles of impeachment to the Senate...and wouldn't for another week

Incredible contrast between @NYTimes reporter tweet versus full quote

Full quote makes it clear President Trump said the federal government will help states; cut off quote makes it appear just the opposite
Not just one tweet either

Apparently deliberately misrepresenting what the President said on the call is a thing in the @nytimes newsroom today

So at least four times, including from the paper's twitter account, @nytimes reporters deliberately cut off the quote to misrepresent what President Trump said

In just 17 minutes, Biden:

1/forgot that he & Obama didn't defeat an incumbent in 2008
2/ Forgot that the primary he just lost was in New Hampshire, not Nevada

3/ Nearly botched his text number, which is written on his podium and all the campaign signs surrounding him
