‘Events that can cause racial trauma include threats of harm and injury, humiliating and shaming events and witnessing racial discrimination and microaggressions.’ google.com/amp/s/amp.cour…
‘Many ethnic and racial groups experience higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as compared to White Americans. ‘ apa.org/pubs/highlight…
‘Most people, after a trauma, don’t get PTSD. Their minds know how to heal from it. But most people with PTSD have experienced multiple traumas. People accumulate trauma until they reach a breaking point, and it’s the same with racism.’blogs.webmd.com/webmd-intervie…
On #PTSDAwarenessDay please know that systemic racism has wide reaching impacts including on mental health. And black and brown communities in particular struggle to get mental health help. npr.org/sections/healt…
One more thing, #PTSD should not carry a stigma. It’s your mind trying to deal with repeated trauma. If you are struggling (which let’s face it many of us are) take care of yourself and also ask for understanding from others. And get help if you can and give help if you can.

Many talks with colleagues who knew Lara Logan when she was a 60 Minutes contributor and Iraq correspondent. The question keeps coming up ‘What happened?’. If you track her public statements though it’s the sadly typical journey to conspiracy we see in the US. A crisis of truth.
It leads to this larger and important question: if someone can be part of the high priesthood of straight journalism and end up talking about Democrats and babies blood, what can be done? She’s not just some sad anomaly or someone with ‘mental health issues’.
This is actually mainstream discourse. It’s being winked at by Trump and propagated by candidates on the right. And as the world gets more uncertain, with social media amplifying the craziness, it’s metastasizing.
I found this a fascinating read about his absolute confidence in the view that he alone can provide for his workers. We’ve seen in every statistic possible that the decimation of the labor movement in the US has been bad for workers writ large. washingtonpost.com/business/2022/…
Listening tours are great. But if you are not talking to those who are driven to start a union, then you aren’t listening?
As an aside, I found the Elon Musk interview also fascinating for similar reasons ft.com/content/5ef149…
Hi 👋🏼 I know there is a lot happening that’s bad right now. But I wanted to talk about something good that’s been life-changing for me. As I’ve said before, the pandemic was really hard for me. Like much of America I suffered mentally and that manifested physically…
In short, I gained a lot of weight. For me that’s a problem because I’ve always suffered from obesity. It’s a disease that is about your body’s inability to store fat in a healthy way. But the way society sees it is as a willpower issue. Many doctors too.
When I say gained weight I’m not talking a few pounds. I’m talking over 50 pounds on top of already being overweight. It was devastating and physically debilitating. I’m not going to debate here fat positivity. I’m going to say I felt and was unhealthy.
A team representing @NAHJ @NABJ interviewed @JoeBiden for almost an hour yesterday. A lot of news there but my takeaway was the specific outline of his plan to dismantle the Trump agenda. More soon on the wall, tarriffs and if he took THAT test.
In our @NAHJ @NABJ interview with @JoeBiden we ask him about cognitive decline and if he has taken THAT test. Hear his answer:
In our #nabjnahj2020 interview, @JoeBiden promised that 'not another foot of wall would be constructed" on the border. Watch our exchange:
The economy will not recover while the virus is being passed exponetially on from one person to another. Leave aside the moral reasons (we are not a death cult). Practically, having employees and customers get sick (maybe die?) seems like a faulty business plan.
I was just in rural Virginia on a reporting trip. The head of the regional community health service there said we need a FEDERAL plan with CLEAR communication from medical EXPERTS, who have a public health COORDINATED response.
Also this idea of how it can be left ‘ up to the states’ or local authorities? They are getting no guidance and conflicting information from ‘hour to hour’. There is no control over who travels where.
