It is Sunday so you know your girl is wound up about this terrible take which a) is historically inaccurate, but b) does inadvertently show one of the main reasons why medieval history is mischaracterised and ignored - imperial apologism. (get ready for links)
First of all, John, my man, that is not what the Dark Ages means. Like my shirt says - it is a name referring to a lack of sources rather than intellectual decline.

Second of all, there was no "rejection of science and critical thinking" in the medieval period? Do you... think that Romans had workable medicine or something and that medieval people "rejected" it? I think maybe you have confused Castlevania with history

Thirdly, I get it, you love Empires. Funnily enough this is why you have a gap in your education about the medieval period and are just, like, making stuff up now. Imperialism seeks to erase a past that doesn't hinge on violently oppressing others.

Lastly, this isn't just about pedantry. Treating modern people's stupid and dangerous ideas as though they are "medieval", or in this case early medieval, (that's what Dark Ages means), lets us off the hook. This is on *us*. We need to own it to fix it.

Anyway the TL/DR here is that our current situation is thoroughly modern. Stop blaming medieval people for our mistakes. Also maybe ... don't stan an Empire that was completely dependent on slavery. It makes it too obvious that you like that.
I wish I could fit "overly aggressive and oddly specific" into the meme.
