1. The great graphic designer Milton Glaser (1929-2020) died on Friday on his 91st birthday. Let's revisit some of his greatest hits. Most famously, the "I [heart] NY" logo.
2. I grew up on the Shakespeare Signet that Glaser designed.
3. A famous Dylan silhouette.
4. Glaser also designed the logo DC comics used from 1976-2005.
5. Finally, Glaser had a hand in this 1960s underground animated film showing Mickey Mouse going to fight in Vietnam (since Glaser is dead, Disney can't sue him so I feel safe in posting).

1. One of the interesting things about Trump's tweet of the "white power" video is that the cultural civil war has spread inside The Villages, the massive Florida retirement communities that are the heartland of Trumpism.
2. As @MikeGrunwald has wonderfully described, the Villages were crucial not just for Trump's victory in 2016 but the continuing dominance of the GOP in Florida. Huge retirement communities filled with people fearful of cultural and demographic change.
3. Covid -- and Trump's botched response to it -- has made seniors a swing vote in a way they haven't been for last 2 decades. One big question in the election is what do older Americans fear more: covid-19 or people of color?

1. The geography of Covid-19 in America has changed. There has been a steep, welcome decline in the former hotspot (New York & adjacent states, Midwest). Unfortunately, there's spike in many states in South & West.
2. The New York Times charts are clarifying. For some states, this is a "second wave" but for many others it's all one big wave. In those states, this is just the beginning.
3. The Trump administration has made clear its response to spikes is going to be to down play it (using metaphors like "embers," "small bumps" and "flare-ups") while pushing full steam ahead with reopening.

The reporting in this story about Shor is important and what happened to him is a travesty. Almost all narratives about PC are hysterical centrist bed-wetting, but in this case there is a genuine wrong.
I'll add that one problem with PC debates is that the people who write about them (on both sides) want to construct grand narratives, when in fact to do justice you have to get into the weeds of each case (which is time-consuming and tedious).
Heterogenous stories get lumped together, which doesn't really help understanding. In the current spate of stories, Shor, Fang & the James Bennet defenestration are very different stories that are being treated as if they were the same.
