The Personal Statement (PS) is the most important ingredient in a graduate school application that gives you the opportunity to sell yourself. Recommend this to anyone who is aspiring to go to Grad school that you know. See the thread below #AcademicChatter
.Your PS is not a time to prove your English language complexity. Do not strain your readers' comprehension by using “Complex” words. Be simple and stick to technical jargon related to your Study.
.You must address what drives your choice of continuing to grad school. It could be a problem, experience, lecture, summer classes, internship, etc that is related to what you want to study.
.Instead of saying Cancer is popular in the US, say “about 5% of people in the US are diagnosed with a cancer type”. Being statistical shows that you have understood the problem. It is important to use verified statistics. e.g according to "Bla bla" 5% of people die daily
.It is vital to talk about what skills you are bringing e.g coding/machine learning, molecular skills, Hardware, etc. Also, try to link your skills with what you aspire to learn. This is also important when you are contacting supervisors.
.To you have any gaps in your CV or Transcripts? Time to talk about the blank 3 years after school, the “D” grade in a course, your job as an air hostess when you're a microbiologist, etc. it would be helpful to say what measures you took afterward.
.Are you curious enough to know what research is going on and what the faculties are doing? Now is the time. What drove your choice of the school and country among others. If you find a supervisor that aligns with your research choice, SHOOT!
.Nothing is more important than a great conclusion. What are your projections and aspirations post-grad school? Now is the time

.Make sure a second eye read your PS. It is very helpful. Especially if the eyes are a trained eye.
.This is simple! Revise until there’s nothing to revise!

Remember that your PS is a story and the story has to sell well. I hope this helps in some way..
