This is it. The S. Korea's Justice Party will officially propose a comprehensive anti-discrimination bill to the National Assembly today. Will also hold a press conference. hankookilbo.com/News/Read/A202…
Now, expect chaos to ensue. Conservative religious lobby group believes this bill is a cover-up for a law that will promote homosexuality.

Justice Party has secured the minimum number of co-sponsors.

S. Korea's Justice Party: "An anti-discrimination law is a proposal to lay the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone is free, dignified and equal from birth, as the foundation for our society."
The ball is now rolling. Every attempt at passing this law has failed because radical conservative "Christian" lobby groups say it's a gay law.

Homophobes are currently protesting outside the National Assembly. Say it will spell the collapse of family, church, and nation.
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea expected to decide tomorrow to formally recommend to the government to enact an anti-discrimination law.

It so will.
An anti-discrimination law is one of the most sensitive issues in South Korea politics. Expect chaos to follow.
Meanwhile, President Moon Jae-in's ruling Democratic Party has remained completely silent on the issue of an anti-discrimination law.

Dead silence.
Democratic Party lawmaker Kwon In-sook is one of the only two from the ruling party to have co-sponsored the Justice Party's anti-discrimination bill. The other was lawmaker Lee Dong-ju @hmright.

Rest of party has remained dead silent.
The anti-discrimination bill has now officially been received by the National Assembly.

Expect the lives of the 10 lawmakers that co-sponsored the bill to become hell from now on.
List of the 10 lawmakers who dared to co-sponsor the anti-discrimination bill submitted to the National Assembly today.

Pretty brave of them as now they are going to be harassed day & night by conservative radical haters, paralysing their ability to work.
President Moon on TV: "I'm against discrimination"

Moon & Democratic Party when anti-discrimination bill gets tabled: (crickets chirping)

AN ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAW WILL NOT MAKE KOREANS BECOME GAY.

How dumb is it that this rhetoric has made this law one of the most sensitive issues in Korean politics?

And that lawmakers refuse to say anything, for fear of upsetting people who believe it. Maybe they do too.
Here's the logic:

- If you ban discrimination, can't discriminate against gay people
- If you don't educate kids "not to be gay", they'll become gay
- They won't marry or have children
- Society will collapse
- Military will collapse
- S. Korea will collapse
And so, because of this mind-boggling logic, there's no anti-discrimination law in South Korea despite SIX previous attempts.

And so everyone suffers. No legal repercussions for discrimination against women, people with disabilities, refugees, foreigners, against religion, etc.
Click on any, and I mean ANY article on the anti-discrimination bill tabled today, and it's literally SPAMMED with homophobic comments like "this is a DISCRIMINATION law" that protects gays only and will increase anal sex and the spread of AIDS.

I literally can't.
It's really quite disgusting, the religious extremists are so against the anti-discrimination law they call it an "AIDS spreading dictatorship law".

Hate speech is not illegal in S. Korea. This is exactly why an anti-discrimination law is needed. And why they are so against it.
Homophobic Korean "religious" organisations are spreading this hate video at the mo against the anti-discrimination bill/law. Don't have time to translate, but you judge from the tone. "The homosexuals already enjoy privileges". It's really vom to watch.
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea has just opened its plenary meeting, in which it is expected to decide to urge the government to enact a comprehensive anti-discrimination law, which they will suggest be called an "Equality Act".
