Reparations would be the end of justice and individual rights in America, the absolute negation of concepts such as the presumption of innocence and individual sovereignty, and the beginning of a race war that never ends. Of COURSE the Left is head-over-heels in love with it.
Anyone with half a wit should understand that if the Left starts forcing innocent people to pay reparations, the extortion will never end. No amount you could pay would EVER be enough. Every reparations scheme that describes some kind of one-and-done payment is a fraud.
An entire billion-dollar permanent political industry would grow around keeping the reparations payments coming, and increasing. Studies that "prove" whatever we paid wasn't enough would become the hottest product of politicized academia.
The second-hottest product in the political arms race would be studies "proving" that everyone who objects to perpetual reparations payments is a white supremacists. The attacks would be endless and unbelievably vicious. The pushback would be vicious as well. Endless war.
The fact that reparations were imposed in the first place would be invoked as "proof" that anyone who argues against constant income redistribution is "wrong" and arguing in bad faith. The Left LOVES to use its power grabs as "precedent" for whatever it plans to do next.
And once the principles of sovereignty and presumed innocence have been destroyed, there are a LOT of other vehicles the Left will drive down the new road it has created. When innocence becomes a "privilege" distributed by the political elite, they will be very stingy with it.
Collective guilt for social crimes? People held liable for the deeds of long-dead ancestors? There's no end to where that would lead, no final line on the list of social crimes the Left wants to punish America for. Look at how quickly their unwritten book of moral law changes.
Today's well meaning citizen would become tomorrow's heinous criminal, judged guilty by activists and sentenced to pay reparations for whatever they have retroactively decided is a crime. I warn you again, it will NEVER end. So many systemic "isms" to avenge!
Look at the mobs the Left has whipped up today. Do those people look like they would be satisfied with some relatively modest payment to "cure" the evils of "systemic racism?" Do they look ready to say okay, America, you paid up, racism is over now?
On the contrary, as you can see right now in hellhole Democrat cities, the Left will use the crime and poverty created by its ideology to demand ever more reparations payments. They'll make things worse on purpose and then flood the streets to demand you pay for their messes.
And with the vital concept of presumed innocence destroyed, there will be no end to what the totalitarian Left can do to individual Americans it doesn't like. Raw political power will determine collective guilt. Ideology that threatens the Left will be criminalized.
Reparations would also destroy what remains of public trust in government. The people on the wrong end of the scheme would have every reason to doubt everything the State does, every reason to think it's a totalitarian racket, to withdraw their last bit of trust from the system.
This distrust would grow especially intense during the ridiculous politicized circus act of deciding who has to pay reparations and how much. You think legislation and administration are complicated and corrupt now? Wait till you see the reparations bill going through Congress.
The social effects of reparations would be absolutely devastating. The sense of victimhood, of entitlement, it would nourish in the people it purportedly "helps" would crush the spirit of a generation. The entitlement mentality would breed more crime, as it always does.
Once you officially sanction the idea of judging innocent people guilty without trial and appropriating their property to achieve "social justice," don't be surprised when more freelance redistribution specialists feel justified in taking property on their own initiative.
Especially because they'll be constantly told the official reparations weren't good enough, and evil obstructionist Republicans are standing in the way of more payments and programs to achieve true justice. Reparations are a crime by the State that will beget more crimes. /end
