Tomorrow we will discuss why Chief Obafemi Awolowo is the greatest African leader. In Africa, we can only compare him to Mandela and Nkrumah

A foremost federalist, his theory on equitable integration was based on true federalism.
In 1947 Awolowo published his book 'path to freedom' where he advocated for a federation of 8 states.
His idea was adapted in the Macpherson constitution.

Awolowo's programs on free education, zero tolerance for illiteracy, universal health coverage, rapid industrialisation
As against consumption of foreign goods. Social protection for the poor, income taxation and astute management of proceeds of cocoa made him a threat to the British imperialists.

Awolowo introduced Television to western Nigeria when TV wasn't available in some EU countries.
Awolowo introduced Universal Health Coverage in the 50s that Obama gifted the US in 2010.

The British knew that if they allowed him to become president they would lose their grip on Nigeria. Awolowo birthed Ikeja, Ogba, Oregun industrial layouts.
The Western Nigerian Development plan would have been a catalyst for a greater Nigeria.

Rural road development, farm produce board, rapid industrialisation, rural and municipal water supply, social welfare, free and compulsory education, universal healthcare.
Awolowo raised the minimum wage and paid every Nigerian working in the western region.

Awolowo built the cocoa house, under his western hotels limited, he built Lafia hotels and the Premier hotels in Ibadan.

No greater leader in Africa. He was simply magnificent..
They had to stop him from becoming the president. The british needed Nigeria to keep the chains on Nigeria.

The chain is still tightly bound.
Awolowo established TV viewing centres, he knew western Nigeria needed the exposure. He had Tribune press..

He knew we would never progress without education. Where are we today?

Awolowo is the greatest African leader.
