Yesterday, in Katsina, a car in the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff hit a man on his bike and never stopped to check on him.

He was rushed to General Hospital Katsina where he was certified dead at exactly 5:45pm. The wedding of this man’s daughter is just a few days away

It was the wedding IVs he was distributing when he was killed by a vehicle in the convoy.

Eyewitnesses say Alhaji Salisu, the victim, was overrun by the car on Yahya Madaki Way, along Kiddies Roundabout in Katsina.

Had a police officer not been talked into picking him up from the accident scene, his body would have remained lifeless on the road.

Salisu suffered multiple fractures on his arms and legs and very deep cuts to his dead.

Roughly two hours after he was pronounced dead, the 17 Brigade Army unit eventually sent some representatives to the hospital to enquire about him, but they were referred to the police division handling the case.

I understand these men spoke in hushed tones all through, raising suspicion about a potential plan to sweep the injustice under the carpet.

At the very least, the culprits need to be punished and Salisu’s family heavily compensated.

As a society, we’re several miles away from military responsibility to civilians but I hope Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, will not cover up his boys this time around.
