A decade ago or so, cinema dance choreographer Saroj Khan had visited Bangalore to do a dance workshop. Anyone would assume it would be the usual bollywood dance training. But here she was talking about Natya Shastra! I was shocked to see what was going on! 1/2
She kept showing all kinds of dance moves, many fairly provocative and not even that aesthetic, and kept saying everything was in Natya Shastra! After that workshop, I asked her to tell me the relevant Slokas or parts of her dance wrt NS. She began getting defensive. Threw a fit!
Finally she got so angry and agitated just for asking her what version or translation of NS she read. I knew she was bullshitting just to fool kids interested in film dance, the workshop for which she was charging a lot. 🤷🏻‍♂️

She was no doubt brilliant in her cinema work.
But she somehow thought NS was a text she could easily play around with. Too bad, it didn't work everywhere!

Anyway, she passed away today. Hope she finally found peace with herself!

Om Shanti!
