Ranking Every Park In Vancouver: Kitsilano Edition

(Buckle up, because there are A LOT)
17. JEAN BEATY PARK

- There are six parks along Point Grey Road that are just "a patch of grass and ocean views", which, bless Point Grey Road, power move
- But this is the worst of them
- Small path in the middle cramps it even more
16. SEAFORTH PEACE PARK

- Cramped park with overgrown grass next to the Burrard Street Bridge
- Interesting monuments, but feel randomly placed and too noisy to enjoy for long
- Definitely the only park in Vancouver that has a recipe for soup
15. ROSEMARY BROWN PARK

- Tiny park weirdly separate from the connecting Arbutus Greenway Park
- Good design but cramped
- Playground only good for small children
- The apartment building is a little too close; makes you feel like you're intruding on a private lawn
14. POINT GREY PARK SITE - TRAFALGAR STREET

- The tiny ocean view park closest to Kits Beach
- Too small to do much
- There's a rock with stories of war and gentrification
- why no name
13. POINT GREY PARK SITE - STEPHENS STREET

- The second tiny ocean view park closest to Kits
- Good slopes for things like bocce, still pretty small though
- The overgrown hedges on the fence block the views somewhat
- Seriously, why no names for these? So many options!
12. POINT GREY PARK SITE - TRUTCH STREET

- okay really we're just keeping a name open for trutch? in 2020?
- ANYHOW, it's another ocean view park with nothing for kids
- but this one has a random patio that's actually pretty great for secret brunch
- no trees though
11. MARGARET PIGGOT PARK

- Another ocean view park, but this one has good slopes and big trees
- Look, I dunno what to tell you about these parks at this point; they're good if you want to quietly sit and contemplate life and have nice views
- Amazingly, still one more to go
10. DELAMONT PARK

- Quiet little pit stop off the Arbutus Greenway
- Acceptable playground and simple winding path
- Weird trees kids can hide in
- Also one of the trees has a secret memorial to a high school music teacher?
9. MCBRIDE PARK

- Split-level park; part west of Waterloo devoted to tennis, part east of Waterloo a big old field
- Fun mix of old trees with distinctive features
- Perfectly serviceable community park
- Playground has TREMENDOUS climbing structure thing that spins
8. VOLUNTEER PARK

- Clearly the best of the basic Point Grey Road parks
- Lots of space, nice gentle hills, enough trees for shade
- Honestly ridiculous that Vancouver has so many of these parks all in one neighbourhood
- I am not necessarily complaining, views+quiet=grand
7. ALMOND PARK

- Sneaky good park hidden to the side when you're racing down Alma between Broadway and 16th
- Field is large enough for sports but doesn't dominante
- Solid 90s playground, good tennis courts
- Back half has a mystery walking trail that's quite pleasant
6. CONNAUGHT PARK

- Like the rest of the city, Kits has a big beefy park that has everything you need but nothing exciting
- Fun old-timey sports club in the middle
- Mediocre playground, but splash pad under construction will help things
5. VANIER PARK

- So many views!
- So much neat art!
- But so much goose poop
- Way too much goose poop
- Too much goose poop to sit anywhere or play sports
- Alas
- Neat hidden bike track
- Strange bridge to nowhere
- All in all, better to walk through than enjoy
4. ARBUTUS GREENWAY PARK

- Winding park through a lot of mid-rise apartments that is very well-designed
- Nice gazebo in the middle, good benches throughout
- EXCELLENT steep slide
- Weird unfinished monument
- Despite name, not connected to Arbutus Greenway, which, okay
3. TATLOW PARK

- Hidden gem at 1st and Macdonald that gets little notice because it's not on the ocean
- North half is a quiet grassy park with water features + tennis
- South half is a shady playground for kids and has a wahsroom
- Quiet, nicely integrated, lots of amenities
2. HADDEN PARK

- VIEWS VIEWS VIEWS
- But also a great beach for dogs?
- And a dock for old-timey boats?
- And a small field for picnics?
- Gets little attention because it's sandwiched between Vanier and Kits, but packs a bunch in a small space
1. KITS BEACH

- The most Vancouver park in Vancouver, for better or worse
- So many views, so many people, feels so natural and artificial at the same time
- Aside from being too busy and too thirsty, objectively great
- Enjoy the quiet beaches when the tide is out
Best unofficial park in Kitsilano?

The long bumpy beach between Kits and Jericho that only exists when the tide is out.

Enjoy the views, enjoy the walk, enjoy looking up at the waterfront mansions while contemplating property boundary disputes
KITS SUMMARY

- 2 great parks
- 7 nice parks
- 6 acceptable parks
- 2 mediocre parks

REMINDER

- New neighbourhoods are ranked every Friday
- Next week is Point Grey. Jericho vs. Spanish Banks, start arguing now
