Maharaja Ranjit Dev (1733-82)/(1728-1780) was one of the most outstanding rulers of Jammu. During his reign, Jammu made tremendous progress in socio-economic and political fields. He was a just and wise ruler. Under him many were attracted to Jammu and the town spread and
flourished. He made several social reforms which were related to adultery, female infanticide,interest demand(sud) and various superstitious practices. He adopted several measures which led to the establishment of social security in Jammu region. He abolished escheat system.
Trade flourished during his time. On account of the fame of the justice and equity, high morality and virtues of Maharaja Ranjit Dev, merchants and respectable persons from all around came to Jammu and settled there. Wealthy people came in large numbers carrying heaps of
uncovered 'asharafis' but nobody dared to look at them with covetous eyes and women bedecked in ornaments travelled alone on deserted roads and through jungles without any fear. Jammu was abode of peace. Maharaja followed a tolerant religious policy.
Maharaja Ranjit Dev was a great ruler of Jammu.During his reign Jammu Raj was an extensive principality. It extended from the Jhelum in the west to the Ravi in the east and from the middle mountains in Kishtwar in the north to Sialkot and Shakargarh in the south,
including a large strip of plain now lying in Pakistan.

So, Maharaja Ranjit Dev was not a weak ruler as claimed by LiveHistoryIndia.
