Yet another strategic project completed by BRO.
PM @narendramodi will inaugurate Atal Tunnel (underneath Rohtang Pass) in September this year.
The 8.8 KM long & 10.5 m wide tunnel is world's longest tunnel above 3,000 metres.
It will reduce distance between Manali & Leh by 46 KM.

The Rohtang Pass receives heavy snowfall & blizzards during winter months and is open for road traffic for only 4 months in a year.
This is how the Rohtang Pass gets clogged with snow and the snow has to be removed for resuming the road connectivity.

Constructed at a cost of ₹4000 Crores, the tunnel will keep the highway open during the winter.
It connects Manali with Keylong in Lahaul & Spiti of Himachal, both on Manali Leh highway and thus reduces the distance between Manali and Leh.
The BRO is in charge of the project.

This tunnel is a single tube bi-lane tunnel with a fire proof emergency tunnel built into main tunnel itself.
It is a step in direction of providing all weather connectivity to remote border areas of Himachal and Ladakh.

This tunnel will provide all year 24*7 road connectivity to Lahaul Spiti that was not there earlier. It will make much easier and quicker the supply lines for our soldiers, especially those posted in forward areas in the strategic Lahaul Spiti region.
