On November 19, 2005, 24 Iraqi civilians were killed by U.S. Marines near the town of Haditha. Despite a clear attempt to cover this incident up, the killings eventually become known as the Haditha Massacre. #ElijahMcClain #copolitics
Shortly after, Marine Lt. Col. Mike Coffman was assigned to Haditha as a civil affairs officer. The Denver Post reported June 1, 2006 that when Coffman talked to Haditha city leaders, they didn't mention a massacre... denverpost.com/2006/06/01/sem… #elijahmcclain #copolitics

Mike Coffman claimed he was "personally offended" by the suggestion that he might have assisted in the initial coverup of the Haditha massacre, and once the scandal blew up stateside he did give a statement about what he knew. #elijahmcclain #copolitics
In the end, prosecution of those responsible for the Haditha massacre was woefully inadequate, and stopped well short of Mike Coffman's connection. Coffman succeeded in avoiding this particular scandal and it did not contribute to his 2018 defeat. #elijahmcclain #copolitics
Today, however, Mike Coffman is the Mayor of Aurora. And Aurora also has a problem with its warriors extrajudicially killing civilians. #elijahmcclain #copolitics
