Americans are taught that the Civil War was fought to end slavery, but as historians know, this was just a pretext. It was primarily about the unity & POWER of the state, i.e. Big Brother, which he has been abusing ever since.
America never became the nation its founders hoped it would, but just a bigger, more powerful version of the mercenary patron state from which it had won its independence.
Big Brother understands how to divide & rule us. He has been doing it for long enough.
What we need to do is divide & rule ourselves, which can only be achieved peacefully, legally & grassroots-democratically.
It's a huge challenge, but one we must rise to, if we're to survive.

The role of the state must be transformed in the light of what I have discovered about it. Instead of facilitating society's self-exploitation by deceitfully posing as our nation, we need it to enforce the rule of law & to facilitate (not dictate!) society's self-realisation.
Society's self-realisation will be determined by modern counterparts of our original nations, which we must create anew, learning how to do so in peaceful cooperation with each other, while the state enforces the rule of law & non-violence.
Sounds fantastical, I know.
