A #thread about Elizabeth Bathory, one of the worst human beings to ever live.
Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed was a Hungarian noblewoman from the noble family of Báthory, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary.

Báthory has been labeled by Guinness World Records as the most prolific female murderer.
(The Bathory family crest)
The Bathory family is still alive and well today.
The Báthory family owned land in modern-day Hungary (as they were Hungarian), Slovakia, Romania, and basically ruled the entire area of Transylvania.
The family was also strongly related to the King of Poland, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, and the Prince of Transylvania.
Due to all of this, the second Elizabeth Bathor was born, she was extremely privileged.

She was taught Latin, German, and Greek, and later in life was able to read and write in 4 languages.
But, whenever she finished her classes (or sometimes during her classes) she had to constantly witness the dark side of her family.
...and that was their devotion to Satanism.
Now by “Satanism” I don’t mean a bunch of teenagers wearing black bathrobes and screaming “hail Satan” in some dusty old basement, I’m talking about serious and DANGEROUS satanism, like how Elizabeth’s parents ordered their workers to painfully torture
...disobedient servants to death while saying some spooky satanic phrases.

Because of this, she ended up trying to find other things to do to take her mind off the horrible, yet fascinating things she saw her family doing.
This led to her becoming very good friends with peasants and poor people as they were not like her family.

She even had a child with one of the peasant boys, but was forced to hide it all the time because if she didn’t, her family, being the psychopaths they were,
would likely kill it or take it away as it would have brought too much “shame” on their family, especially when she was about to be married to another rich snob named Ferenc Nádasdy.
Ferenc Nádasdy was part of the Ferenc family which was another rich and powerful family.
When Ferenc Nádasdy and Elizabeth Bathor got married, 4000 people came together to see their wedding.

As Elizabeth was of higher birth than Ferenc, she refused to take his name, and he instead took hers, Bathor, which also showed the power of the family.
The couple spent little time together, with Ferenc away studying in Vienna, but they went on to have at least 6 children together.
Elizabeth was gifted swathes of land by her husband upon their marriage, including Čachtice Castle, Čachtice country house, and 17 adjacent villages.
Elizabeth was certainly a powerful, independent woman, who often ruled and defended the couple’s territories in her husband’s absence, which was often as he was appointed Commander of the Hungarian forces fighting against Turkey.
As well as being capable of managing and defending their vast territories, Elizabeth was very generous to the poor and needy.

She gave lots of money to charity, and often intervened on behalf of impoverished or disadvantaged women and children
...in order to keep the family reputation up and to hide their satanic traditions.

However, even though she acted nice, her true colors r
showed when she was alone.
Because her husband Ferenc had a good reputation, it allowed him to make sure nothing happened to his wife, allowing Elizabeth to do anything she wanted - including murder.

Since she was brought up in a house full of violence, she ended up turning quite violent herself.
Elizabeth asked Ferenc who was fighting the Turks to build her a torture chamber and since Ferenc wanted to please his wife, he sent his best builders to build a mighty torture chamber to her specifications.
The second he was done building the chamber, she kidnapped young servant girls, most only 9–16 years of age and then sent them down to her chambers to kill and torture them.
Bathory’s torture included jamming pins and needles under the fingernails of her victims, and tying them down, smearing them with honey, and leaving them to be attacked by bees and ants that she kept.

In another incident, inspired by how people harvest juice from trees,
...she stuck hundreds of big needles in a single girl and drank the blood leaking out of it.
There are reports that she would sometimes rip the girls mouths apart using her own hands.

She also liked to burn her victims. She would hold candles to their genitals and set them on fire. She also really liked to burn them with hot metal rods constantly
...and she did it so they did not die or sustain any mortal injury, so she was able to do it again and again.
In the winter, she would strip down a girl and toss her out into the courtyard, where cold water was thrown onto her so that she would freeze to death, making them into statues.
Bathory would also pour boiling water on her victims and seemed to enjoy peeling off their cooked skin, like a scalded tomato and sometimes eat it.
But, in the early 1600s, Ferenc died of a unknown disease in the middle of a battle, and in a state of grief she went to another level of evil, becoming much much worse than she was before.

Instead of just servants, young women began to disappear from villages near and far,
as well as children as young as 3.

Unhappy girls were lured to the castle with the prospect that they would find work there but were never seen again.
In this new stage of mass murder, Elizabeth would order her servants to bring up a girl to her quarters where she would bite their faces and shoulders, eating their flesh and drinking their blood.
In other instances, she would stick needles underneath the girl’s fingertips, like before, but she started cutting off the fingers of those who tried to take them out, she become known to enjoy self cannibalism, and forced some of the girls to cut some of their own flesh
...and then force them to EAT IT, and this wasn't just once and then the person was killed, the person was forced over and over again to cut and eat themselves until they died of pain and bloodloss.
Soon Elizabeth began to run out of young women, because she had either already taken them, or the villagers had started to hide their daughters out of fear that she would take them.

This is when the Elizabeth began to resort to noble girls,
...a decision that would ultimately lead to her demise.

After the disappearance of a noble girl, the authorities went mad.

They searched high and low for the girl and ended up tracing the clues to Elizabeth’s castle.
During a night raid, officials searched the castle and discovered the dead bodies of young girls everywhere they looked, in the walls, in the cupboards, in the rubbish chutes and pretty much anywhere where bodies could fit;
...there were 50 bodies in one of the many basements in the castle. Some were missing arms and eyes.
Elizabeth was taken to trial and many testified against her, including her servants as well as survivors.

One of the servants said that girls were tied up and beaten to death until their whole body was black as charcoal and their skin battered and torn.
One girl suffered from 200 blows before dying.

Another servant admitted that she had taken red-hot fire pokers and shoved them into the mouth of one girl.

She said she placed her fingers in the mouth of another and pulled until the sides split open.
Elizabeth said she did it because she thought that the spirits and blood of the girls would make her pretty, and it wasn't her fault as all ladies want to be pretty.
650 children and teenagers died under Elizabeth.
.Her servants who were forced to help her were sentenced to death, but Elizabeth was imprisoned for life in a room in her own castle that was boarded up with tiny slits for food and air.
Elizabeth lived for three and a half years before she was found dead lying face down on the floor.

After her death, Countess Elizabeth Báthory went down in history as one of the most evil women to ever have walked the planet.

In my opinion, she could have turned out better if not for her family's penchant for satanic ritual sacrifice. It messed up her young psyche for life.
