This is @YasMohammedXX. As a child, Yasmine was hung upside down in her family's garage by a meat hook so the bottoms of her feet could be whipped for violating the tenets of #Islam. This was in Vancouver, Canada. 🇨🇦

At 13, Yasmine courageously told police and social services what was happening at home. The judge ruled that #corporalpunishment wasn't against the law and that due to her family's "culture," her punishment might be more severe than in the average Canadian household.

Yas learned help for #childabuse was reserved for little white girls - if she were a blond, blue-eyed daughter being hung and whipped unconscious, or beaten so badly her teachers reported bruises, she would've been helped. But Yasmine was brown and swathed in black.⁣ 🧕🏽⁣
