The show villain The real villain ImageImage
Just about everything that goes bad for them really is because of Jesse and honestly Walt is exceedingly patient with him and nails him out of so many jams it’s insane. Jesse also forced Walt into the position where he had to poison Brock yes I said it
In the final season they really play up the Walt the Heel act and make him really really genuinely shitty to Jesse to kind of balance things better but the first four seasons Jesse is dead weight and ruins everything. On rewatch I decided Jesse is actually real metaphoric cancer
People say everyone is worse off for knowing Walt but I would argue everyone is actually way worse off for knowing Jesse. Jesse’s trail of wreckage is far worse than Walt’s. Plus so much of Walt’s wreckage is Jesse’s fault also.
Jesse ruins the Tuco plan by messing up the ricin thing. If he just shit his mouth Tuco would have sniffed the ricin died and they would have escaped. Hank would not have had to shoot Tuco and start down the road to PTSD and Kessler and Walt would have gotten home way sooner
Jesse lets himself get tricked and followed by Hank to the trailer and as a result almost gets them caught. Forces the move where they have to tell Hank that Marie is in the hospital. Pissing off Hank like that makes him an enemy and leads to police brutality
Walt had a good partner with Gale, a setup he loved, great relationship with Gus, all they had to do was cook and get rich for a year or so but then loose cannon Jesse decides to threaten to out Walt and take down Hank forcing Walt to get Gale fired and brinf Jesse on
Jesse gets brought on and starts stealing meth from under Gus’s nose. Walt catches on and tries so hard to be a wise father figure to Jesse and warns him to not mess up a good thing. Just cook, get rich, be happy. Jesse keeps stealing anyway. Also tried to sell meth at rehab
One of Hank’s first big clues, the stolen RV, came about from Jesse wasting all of Walt’s money at the strip clib with no backup plan, forcing him in the position where they have to use Combo’s mom’s stolen RV unbeknownst to Walt. Leads to one of Hank’s first big breaks
Tries to peddle drugs that he stole from Gus despite being paid out the wazoo to vulnerable recovering addicts. Another high risk move. Only stops Becuase he sees Andrew has a kid. But how many other kids’ parents is he getting hooked on meth nationwide? So who cares he spares 1?
Reintroduces Jane back to drugs which causes a downward spiral for both of them. Turns Jane against her father. Let’s Jane turn him against Walt. Let’s Jane convince him to blow up almost everything. Walt was scum for letting Jane but Jesse’s spinelessness creates the problem
He gets a moral vendetta against two dealers who killed Combo (who was selling on rival turf without checking in) and suddenly the guy who supplies Wendy, a mother and a meth whore, with no problem suddenly can’t stand to see families ravaged by crime.
He almost blows it all up with Gus yet AGAIN in addition to stealing by obsessing over killing those two who killed Combo. Walt intervenes after he won’t listen and saves his life again and even helps squash it with Gus but Jesse’s stubbornness has a casualty: Andrea’s brother
If Jesse wasn’t so stubborn and listened to Walt Andrea’s brother wouldn’t have died. Then Jesse gets on a new mission to kill two seasoned gangsters 1 on 2 with no subterfuge. Just walk up to then head on telegraphing his moves and no plan. Walt AGAIN saves Jesse with car + gun
Jesse’s stupid stubbornness has blown things up so much with Gus that now both their lives are marked. Walt steps you again and makes a plan and buys time and Jesse is forced to kill Gale to help rescue them from the mess he alone put them in with Gus by constantly ignoring Walt
After being in this new hell all thanks to Jesse’s stubborn refusal to listen to Walt, after only being alive because Walt rescued him repeatedly at great risk to himself, when it’s time to return the favor and kill Gus Jesse can’t do it, procrastinates, and falls for the...
...most transparent divide and conquer plot by Mike and Gus and basically sells out Walt who bailed him out so many times and who’s in this mess Becuase of Jesse all for a few attaboys from the two men who want to clearly kill them
Up until the very end Jesse is letting himself get seduced by Mike and Gus and betraying Walt despite Walt only being in this hell due to his loyalty to Jesse and basically puts Walt in a position where he has no choice but to pull the Brock card to make Jesse finally be smart
...and it worked. Walt chose the right amount of ricin and Brock was fine. Everything worked out. Gus got killed. They stayed out of jail. If Jesse wasn’t so stupid the whole time they were dealing with Gus to get them in hot water then so stupid in procrastinating killing Gus...
Walt would not have had to poison Brock. But even then Walt handles it all well and Jesse is ultimately better off for it. Walt is less harmful to Brock then knowing Jesse ultimately is to him. Jesse is the actual cancer. Everyone is worse off he comes in contact with lol
Next season Mike gives Walt a speech about how they had a good thing but Walt and his damn male ego couldn’t let it be because that season they had to play up Walt is a bad guy angle but funny thing it’s not true! Walt was a huge team player for Gus. Jesse ruined it all
Walt tried to play mediator and damage control every step of the way and be a team player and even told Gus Jesse’s plans to kill his employees AND protected Jesse from retribution multiple times and it was Jesse’s stupid stubbornness that killed the golden goose of Gus
Next step, his PTSD whininess has him being so reckless that he drives around throwing money around. He needlessly attracts attention to himself throwing the money ends up arrested and gets back on Hank’s radar. Walt arranges to send him out of town, Jesse makes the Brock...
...realization, details the whole escape+goes back after Walt for basically doing something he was only forced to do because of Jesse’s prolonged stupidity and inaction and that eventually worked and saved their lives. By not leaving town, he sets in motion events that kill Hank
If you think about it, there is not a single person or group who after coming into contact with or taking in Jesse does not immediately have their life spiral out of control or die. He ruined his parents’ fortunes, wiped out Jane’s family and an airplane, took down Gus...
...with his stupidity, something even the Mexican cartel couldn’t pull off, the bring Jesse the cancer to Mexico and in a week the Mexican cartel is wiped out, they bring him Back to the US, Gus ends up dying, he comes back and leads to Andrea’s family being destroyed...
The cancer that Walt actually comes down with in the pilot episode is not the physical cancer he is diagnosed with. It’s the metaphorical cancer of Jesse. Jesse is the cancer of the show. He wipes everything out and is still standing. In fact that’s how Walt really took out Nazis
His diabolical plan to wipe out the Nazis was not really the robot car. It was the minute he gave them Jesse, the cancer. Nothing survives Jesse. He’s the ultimate bad luck charm. The seeds of their destruction were planted right then by Walt whether he realized it or not
Todd gets a weird soft spot for Jesse and doesn’t want to kill him, and like all those who take pity on Jesse or let him in, he pays. It’s the stalling tactic of asking to see Jesse that buys Walt the time to get his keys in his hand and spring the trap on Nazis.
Without Jesse, the Nazis kill him right away because he does a miscalculation with the keys. Jesse’s path of bad luck and destruction is now complete. Walt wins by weaponizing the cancer. Jesse speeds off to continue his spree of carnage and Walt and everyone else die
The only supposed good thing about Jesse is this soft spot he supposedly had for kids. But which kids are better off because of him. He sold drugs to Wendy the prostitute who was a mother. Almost sold drugs to Andrea, Brock’s mother. Got Andrea’s kid brother killled...
...got Brock made into an orphan and permanently traumatized, and hobbled his parents’ financially which probably hurt his little brother’s lifestyle and college plans. Not to mention all the kids’ lives probably ruined by supplying meth to all the Southwest
El Camino the carnage continues. He stumbles onto a crime scene with some fake cops. The cops have a chance to just kill him. Just do it. But one of them in a moment of weakness or whatever just lets him off alive and even gets some money...
...sure enough, like everyone who gives Jesse a pass, it leads to his an annhilation. Very fitting that this is the final scene of the show. He rides off to the sunset with his happy ending Image
