Yo, idk WHO asked @MehcadBrooks to speak on behalf of #HAITI... But he was ill informed.

(A VERY brief thread so that people can stop tagging me/forwarding his little video to me. And so that he can MAYBE get the correct info and share that)
1) Haiti recently fell back into the position as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Not the world. We're not even bottom 5 in the world.

I know it ain't much to brag about, but let's keep the facts factual.
2) STOP PERPETUATING THE BS NARRATIVE THAT FRANCE BASICALLY CHARGING HAITI REPARATIONS IN 1825 IS WHAT GOT US WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

In the 1950s, Port-au-Prince was the second busiest port in South America, with Curaçao (the main point of entry into the mainland) at first.
When White Americans flocked to Cuba as their Caribbean playground, Black celebs were going to Haiti. I'm talking well into the 60s.

Yes that debt to France fucked us up for a minute. But that is NOT why Haiti is where it is today.
Haiti's current economic status is a direct result of a) the US undermining Haiting agriculture in the mid EIGHTIES after sanctioning the coup against Baby Doc. In the narrative that they perpetuate about Papa Doc (who's henchmen did NO WORSE than the CIA)
They always forget to tell you that Papa Doc was a pro-Black, SOCIALIST ruler. Under his rule, Haiti could not import ANYTHING that grows on the island. The US convinced us to strike that rule down.

Now we're in the middle of the Caribbean importing fucking fish.
In fact, Haitian farmers SELL PRODUCE TO THE DR THAT IS THEN IMPORTED BACK AT A MARK UP. Because we don't have the infrastructure to support our agricultural industry
The SECOND thing that put #Haiti in its CURRENT economic situation is the embargo placed by Bush in 92 and reinforced by Clinton for at least 2 yrs, thanks to the alleged "only democratically elected" president who sacrificed the good of his people in his quest for power.
Add to that the decades of inept/absence of leadership, the constantly dwindling infrastructure, and the constant narrative of "Poor Haiti" in the international media and non-profits taking advantage of the situation while padding their pockets and here we are. #Fin
