Dear Doomsayers and Twitter Chicken Littles:

Please keep better notes.

For three years you've been telling me that the right-wing has been stacking the courts, and the Supreme Court will make Trump a dictator.

I spent much time writing threads persuading people why. . .
. . . this would not happen, that the Court would not make the president untouchable

Today the Supreme Court rejected Trump's argument that Trump has absolute immunity. In fact, Kavanaugh and Gorusch joined Ginsburg and the other liberals in rejecting Trump's argument. . .
. . . yeah, yeah, I know. It was remanded. Congress doesn't get the documents Right Now.

But if you want to call it corrupt, you're also calling Ginsburg and Obama's appointments corrupt, because they signed on to the decision.

I've told you all . . .
. . . that saving Democracy includes protecting and defending democratic institutions.

The independent judiciary is one of the most important democratic institutions.

See:

Perhaps the real winner in today's decisions was the Supreme Court . . .
. . . which managed to issue a nonpartisan decision on an extremely charged political issue.

Note to people posting things like this ⤵️.

We have had two periods in American history when we had what we might call a liberal court: The Marshall Court and the Warren Court . . .
Other than the period between 1955 and about 1980, I doubt you will find a time when you liked the Supreme Court decisions.

The Supreme Court upheld slavery (Dred Scott), upheld segregation (Plessy v Ferguson), held that minimum wage violated the Constitutional . . .
. . . right to contract, etc. etc.

Don't like the conservative justices? Work your butts off to elect a Democratic president and Senate.

Like Democracy?

Stop trashing democratic institutions.

Lecture over.
Actually not over. Don't you love when I go on a tear, say I'm done, then pick back up? 😂

I spent my legal career representing indigents. I never once represented a person who could afford to pay (I was paid through CA general budget as a court-appointed appellate lawyer). . .
. . . which means I've often been frustrated. The system was not fair to my clients. I've cried over court rulings against my clients.

The courts will never be perfect, and you'll never be entirely happy with decisions.

But be careful about spreading Chicken Little Doom.
Thanks for the reminder that the Native Americans also scored a win today.
