1/ If we are at war with this virus, we need to push away partisanship and attack it with the interventions that work.

**Things are getting worse.**

We just updated covidexitstrategy.org and added a new color, "Bruised Red" to capture the new extremes that we are seeing.
2/ Our deeper red captures the new highs. States where CASES PER MILLION are more than 150 per day; where POSITIVITY is higher than 10%, & ICU OCCUPANCY is higher than 85%.

By focusing on CASES PER MILLION & POSITIVITY we are more accurately presenting the situation.🍎s to 🍎s
3/ This emphasizes how bad things have gotten in Arizona, Florida, Lousiana, South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Nevada, Idaho, Tennessee, California, Arkansas, Utah, Iowa, and North Carolina.
4/ It adjusts a few states that were RED to YELLOW b/c their CASES PER MILLION are between 40-80 per day.

Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, Pennsylvania, & West Virginia.

These states need to be VIGILANT b/c POSITIVITY is increasing.
5/ Outside of Illinois, the rest of these states have their COVID+ rates increasing. A sign indicating that these states are not testing enough.

Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Oregon, Pennsylvania are all failing to meet the baseline test throughput for their states.
6/ The cheapest intervention we have is MASKS and only 23 states have a mandated policy. Even in those states, it is not enough. They vary in their effectiveness.

States can learn from local governments on what effective policies look like. See @sfgov

sf.gov/information/ma…
7/ The best time to have enacted a MASK policy was back in March. But no states did. According to covid19statepolicy.org only 8 states put in place a mandate in April.

These states are not done with the fight, but they have a huge headstart against an exponential opponent.
8/ There's a void in federal leadership in this war. To win any battle, you need situational awareness and ground truth.

Our HHS and CDC need to be directed to share all COVID related data with the public in real-time and in machine-readable formats.

Congress, please help.
9/ This work is only possible because of data produced by volunteers at @COVID19Tracking and covid19statepolicy.org. That data is structured and updated daily.

We are thankful that the @CDCgov produces *some* data, but it is hard to work with and updated infrequently.
10/ Our team is small, but is made up of collaborators from @USDResponse, @USofCare, @ResolveTSL, and @DukeMargolis.

We are non-partisan. We've worked in this administration and the prior one.

We do this because data will help us beat this virus.
11/ As always:

(1) Reach out to your state & community leaders and advocate for the actions they should be taking. (Like mandating masks 😷.

(2) If you see data that needs to be updated, tell us.

We can stop the spread together 💪🏾
