Here's what I've come to suspect. Wokeness don kill many pioneer Buharists. Most pre-2015 Buharists, esp intellectuals, were not grounded in reality. They had a romanticised view of @MBuhari and the rigours of governance when they, unsolicited, clothed him with a messiah complex.
With heads in the clouds, they became quickly disillusioned once he became @NGRPresident and they realised he had no wand to wave to conjure up the #Utopia of their dreams. As time wore on & it became evident that he could not call forth the things that be not as if they were...
...their disappointment (often born, not of enlightened comparative analysis of leadership in Nigeria) ripened to hatred for their man. Worse, such persons found themselves targets of vicious 'dragging' on social media by agents provocateurs of the former irredeemable regimes...
...and buckled under the weight of their critics, esp as Buhari struggled in leadership. Worse for them, they are #socialmedia mavens who depend on 'clout' online, for life or livelihood, and unfortunately, Buhari's base is predominantly offline so sh*t became too real...
...Every post, even the ones that are evidently true and ought to garner accolades were met with vicious brickbats and a hail of #brokenbottles. At some point the unending reproach broke their hearts and then their spirits and they began to recant...
...even as their man came near to collapse as he grunted through the Augean Stables bequeathed him in every sector and subsector. A popular publisher was an early adopter of this cop-out, but many formerly outstanding Buharists have since joined the train of mixed multitudes...
...heading back to the Egypt they once left. As a latter-day Buhari's myself, having come to start appreciating the man from late 2016 to early 2017 I see them today hailing #Hushpuppi or other members of his Server Crew bandmates and I am overwhelmed by pity...
...For God's sake, I held onto the PDP for 16 years and had precious little to show for it in terms of the good governance I craved. In 4 years of Buhari, I can conveniently silence critics in my native SE with a a slew of life-changing and economy transforming projects...
... the Second Niger Bridge, Akanu Ibiam Intl Airport, Onitsha-Enugu Highway, Enugu-PH Highway, a completed Power Project in Aba to which Shell Petroleum just completed and commissioned a modern gas pipeline about 2 weeks ago...
...Let's not talk about #npower and the rest of the #SocialSafetyNet Programmes which I know has impacted more than a quarter of a million people at least in the South East. Yes, there are humongous, even horrendous, gaps in Buhari's governance, but it has completely eclipsed...
...anything accomplished any government in this 4th Republic. It is sad that the people who saw tomorrow pre-2015 are seeing pepper today and repudiating their own foresight. Sad and unbelievable. Truly, 'They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.'
