In addition to the reason I offered earlier (it goes against the GOP philosophy of government) providing safety resources undermines the "all is fine / live with it" narrative.

As Pelosi said, this isn't a matter of balancing equities.
There is no balance against a child's life.
I am appalled to see tweets beginning with, "Yes, children can die from the virus, but . . ."
(Don't worry. None of my followers. You're all too humane for such a sentence.)
Starting on time under the circumstances makes about as much sense as: "A fire is burning in the auditorium, but kids need to be in school!"
My son, however, does not view doing high school at home in a bathrobe as a hardship. He can study independently, so that's easier for us.
My heart goes out to the parents who will be struggling through this.
The US has the resources to get schools safely through this, but, well, GOP.
