The above shot at the train station carries on for 48 seconds straight. I wonder why that doesn’t get the same criticism as the elevator scene.
4 episodes into the series I don’t think they were ”running on a limited budget & trying to save money on animation “. I think in both cases (as well as the Kaworu scene) it’s just the style: they shot is held for a specific purpose, not to cut corners.
Episode 6: it was all worth it to see Best Girl smile.
All from episode 7 & all directed at Misato (including the famous coffee mug shot)
Plenty more where that came from as we move on to episode 8 (Asuka’s arrival)
Stay mad Asuka.
Probably not actually true for a variety of reasons but I almost feel like Misato/Asuka & Kaji/Shinji would have been better mentor/protege combinations than the ones that actually happened.

I didn’t notice this the first time. In episode 9 Asuka goes over to instigate our Best Girl & the shadow of her big ass head falls on the book Rei is quietly reading. So Rei moves the book out of the shadow & then Asuka gets closer again overshadowing the book once more.
I’m only collecting Shinji disapproval faces in this thread but I’ll make one exception. Rei meets Asuka for the first time & the look says it all.

Episode 18. Another familiar situation: been told over & over I’m “hard to read” & also having had people keep things from me cause I might react poorly (the catch being when I find out things *were* kept from me, the problem is exacerbated then & I react poorly lol)
That’s honestly the angle I thought this subplot was going on my first watch: Shinji resenting the fourth child, that everyone knew before him, betrayal, etc.
Of course, the Angel attacks & Shinji’s dad assuming control of situation take the outcome & story down another path.

Shinji & Kaji don’t interact that much in the show but when they do, Kaji gives solid pep talks.
Another rather long shot. Plenty of dialogue & then sounds of intimacy, but the shot is still.

Been waiting a long time to relive this moment.
I shouldn’t laugh cause Asuka is legit suffering but imagine this smiling nice boy being the image of your psychological torture.
Not a huge Asuka fan but this one does kind of sting. Imagine that feel. Especially considering what Rei is as well.

Episode 25 now. I’m actually one of the people who was satisfied with the 25-26 ending (still glad EoE got made tho)
Shinji doesn’t approve of Misato’s harlotry.

EoE Shinji is by far worst Shinji. He catches a lot of flack for “running away” & “not getting in the Eva” during the series but some of that critique is exaggerated. This is just pathetic tho. Dragged around by the arm while Asuka is up top 9 v 1.
