I think it's important to reintroduce you to Dr. Leon Kelly... the El Paso County Coroner
He spoke to his commissioners today, delivering some of the more stark words I've heard in some time on COVID in the state. Basically, now is a CRITICAL time
He helped identify first outbreak in state.
He says Colorado has faced two MAJOR moments in this fight...
When the first death was documented.
TWO...
Right now...
"This is the moment we can do the right thing."
"I think we've had four community deaths in the last couple of days," he said (not in long term care facilities)
Hospitalizations/cases up as well
To be clear, all of this right now is MANAGEABLE
But, Dr. Kelly said, other states are providing plenty of proof that things can go from ok to not ok in a short period of time.
Here's the thing. He's not calling for businesses to close. He wants things to stay open
Decisions many of us won't like.
Businesses... restaurants... gyms... schools...
Yeah... those things...
He said masks are the easiest option to consider
Feel free to disagree, but you'd better have a better option than "do nothing" says Kelly
"You guys know me. I'm not an alarmist, and I have an unwavering belief that we can get this done, and I still do; but as I'm going to present to you today, that's going to require an alteration of our behavior"
