On Pakistan - Iran relations.
I feel quite a lot of disappointment and frustration in Pakistanis on Iran's current regional conduct.
However; to label Iran as an enemy would be inappropriate and not in line with the holistic Pak-Iran affairs. Neither history supports it...

Iran was among the first nations to recognize Pakistan in 1947. Shah of Iran was the first head of State to visit Pakistan in line with its support to an independent Pakistan.

Iran's opting out of india's Chabahar venture is a significant development.
It has two angles;
One. Iran realizes now that india was taking dictation from the US on their bilateral affairs. Any purposeful progress was therefore not likely in the future.

Two. China has succeeded in a furthering its regional economic integration efforts by engaging Iran. It would now be focusing on post US withdrawal Afghanistan, which apparently is only a matter of time.
What should our strategic priorities be now under the circumstances...

Why do the nations have an army..?
Is it for war fighting..?
Yes. But it is an Army's secondary task.
What is the primary task then..?
It is to minimise the possibility of war through application of a notion called "Deterrence".
How is it done ?

It is done through maintaining a state of readiness viz trained and motivated manpower, modern wpns and eqpt and logistic wherewithal to discourage other nations / alliances or entities to resort to violent or non-violent coercive means in bi/multilateral dealing(s).....

Slackness / weakness in Deterrence is an indirect invitation to aggression.

Calls for defence budget cuts at a time when India is on an upwards trajectory in defence spending would result in an imbalance in the deterrence regime of South Asia.
