Twitter postponed the launch of the new #TwitterAPI, which was planned for today. But they published a blogpost with what to expect.

An API that grows with you. In the past you had to switch between APIs, as your data needs increased. For me that meant switching back and forth between Standard and Premium API. The new will allow me to use the same endpoint and only change the access level. /1

Instead of Standard/Premium, there will be three product tracks. Each of them will have the ability to get elevated access.

For my research projects, I will probably use the "Academic Research" track. For @accountanalysis the "Business" track. Though these will launch later. /2

As the different APIs become more streamlined, the developer portal will become better as well. Features that are currently only available to the Premium endpoints, will become available for all endpoints. Like Usage and Limits. /3

Things that will be launched first:
- Conversations. This will be awesome for my analyses. Currently I mostly look at Tweets that contain a certain term. This will allow me to look at the whole conversation.
- Tweets performance. This will be interesting for @accountanalysis. /4

Most important: All features will be available to the always free Basic access level.

This means you will be able to play with everything before deciding if you need more of it. /5

#TwitterAPI v2 will one day replace the Standard, Premium AND Enterprise APIs.

I never used Enterprise because of the fixed cost, but would have loved to have some of the features from it in the Premium API. Having all features in every tier, will be awesome. /6
