From a GOP strategist close to McConnell: "Republicans have Labor Day penciled in as the deadline for Trump to have turned things around. After that, he’s on his own."

I can't see how this will save vulnerable GOP Senators.

People won't suddenly forget that these GOP Senators have been propping Trump up all this time and shielding him, and are thus responsible for any damage he has done.

The moment any of these GOP Senators up for reelection try to turn on Trump, the ads will write themselves.

2/
Trying to save their seats by turning on Trump won't work.

The number of hardcore MAGA people is shrinking, but good luck winning as a Republican right now without them.

They'd have to win over enough independents to make up for the Trump supporters who will turn on them.

3/
It seems so simple, right? Do the right thing and turn this around.

The problem that it's beyond Trump's ability.

It would require (1) admitting there is a problem, (2) admitting he was wrong, and (3) speaking coherently.

It's bigger than Trump. . .

4/
Look at Kemp in Georgia. GOP leadership thinks that it is tyranny to require masks, but good government to give tax cuts to the rich and allow industries to destroy the environment.

They can't distance themselves from Trump.
They are Trump.

5/
I thought about this and came to the same conclusion.
The pitch would be "Biden will win. We need Republicans for balance and to keep the Democrats from going too far."

I agree that it won't work because of the pandemic.

6/
The pandemic changes the margins.

The Mueller findings, evidence that Trump is beholden to foreign powers, cheating on taxes is enough to tip the election to the Democrats.

I don't believe the "economy" would have saved Trump.

Now the baseline has changed. . .

7/
Before the pandemic, I expected a Democratic win and hoped for large margins.

Now a blowout seems likely.

I think a turning point was when Trump suggested drinking bleach to kill the virus.

Stark raving madness creating in mass death loses more voters than cheating.

8/
The tragedy is that it took millions unemployed and 138,000K dead for to loosen Trump's support.

Many of us who watched the Mueller Investigation and Operation Ukraine Shakedown unfold are shocked that it took a pandemic to pry away some independents and Trump supporters.

I should not tweet so late.

All typing errors are entirely the fault of keyboard gremlins.
