Here is one lesson from the disturbing images coming out of Oregon.

If you can possibly do it, get your hands on an absentee ballot. Do it soon as possible.

If your state doesn't allow absentee voting, vote early.

Personally, I prefer to drop mine off instead of dropping it in the mail.

I've always done that, even before Trump.

GA, for example, has secure drop boxes. These have worked well. (Boxes are tightly regulated)

In my town, I can take mine . .
. . . to the county elections office prior to the election. I get my "I voted" sticker.

My husband drops his off at the polling place. He is also the precinct manager and runs the polling place, so he knows his is safe 😉

Some states you can't do that, so check . . .

I am on the Voter Protection Committee in GA, and I can tell you that we are just as worried about people undermining confidence in the elections, which has the effect of suppressing the vote. . .
. . . if you are worried (and if you are not, you're not paying attention) find a way to help. There are remote volunteer opportunities.

Spreading fear is counterproductive because then people think 'why bother voting' or they're scared to go to the polls. Lose-lose
Someone asked the difference between manipulating the vote and suppressing the vote.

Manipulating is finding a way to change the numbers of votes.
Suppressing persuades people not to vote. For example: Both candidates are equally bad.

Suppressing is easier than manipulating.
Dear People who are right now explaining to me why I am totally wrong and the Republicans will succeed in undermining the election: Read this entire thread, then read my FAQs, and my to-do list.

Panic tweeting and doom tweeting don't count as activism.
We need lots of activists.
Good point.

I just added "Periodically check to make sure you are still registered," to my To-Do list, particularly if you are in a state where Republicans in charge keep trying to find excuses for purging people from lists.

I'm not quite sure what this means.

If any voters listen to Trump talk about the pandemic and thinks this is "normal" I'm not sure that rage or doom tweeting will persuade them otherwise.

On the contrary, it's likely to shift the emphasis.
Consider. . .
Trump's con is to persuade people that he's a "strongman."

If everyone melts down every minute, shouting that Trump has already succeeded in creating an autocracy (or there's nothing we an do to stop it) how does that not feed the myth that he is invincible and invulnerable?
I was most worried before the 2018 midterms. The Democrats winning by 8 points gave me hope.

Why? because I believe in democracy.

Before you call me hopelessly naive, let me tell you my family history (or actually, my husband's). . .
His family experienced the Pinochet dictatorship. He had to carry this card proving that he voted for Pinochet or his life would be in danger.

I've heard the stories.

My husband knows what autocracy looks like. I have written threads about how Chile got out from under Pinochet.
It's the same way the Ukrainians have been resisting Putin.

Democracy will survive if enough people want it to, and are willing to do the work to make it happen. Period.

People want it to be more complicated, but that's what it comes down to.
I am not commenting on what is happening in Oregon until we have more information.

But what we are seeing confirms for me that it's likely there will be attempts to scare people away from the polls on November 3.

Fortunately, we have a solution.
It's a human desire for magic bullets (This or that will happen and Trump's support will melt)

2 years ago a lawyer blocked me and called me a bad lawyer. Why? I said the only way out of this (because the GOP is shielding Trump) is to vote him out in 2020.
The resistance I got inspired me to write my FAQs.

I don't speculate and I don't claim to be good at predictions. I just read the constitution, which provides no other legal way to get rid of a president if a majority in the Senate shields him.
