1/ Quick #Matot point about #Nedarim: while any gender difference in halacha is indicative of patriarchy & is difficult to reconcile w/modern values, I find people misconstrue the dynamics of "father/husband can zap his female relative's vow"
2/ Cypesian analysis (welcome to it, y'all) of Tanakh and/or history is to place yourself in the social process and see how it would play out.

So the key to understanding the Gender Vow Process is that the man can eliminate a woman's vow but CANNOT stop her from making one
3/ E.g. if the wife wants to keep the vow she made, her husband can't stop her from making it again.

If he zaps it, she'll re-vow immediately. This repeats ad nauseam until he gets the message

It's not a weapon of man vs. woman b/c it's 1 sided relief. It's only for her benefit
4/ Zapping vows is for convenience (she doesn't need to go & find a Beit Din like her husband) and to make domestic life easier

Because if a husband & wife are fighting & she vows to make his life tough, she can keep it up until he listens.
5/ The same dynamic works for fathers & daughters. She can vow to exert her power & if he zaps it, she can revow immediately (like above)

In a healthy family, zapping is a gift. In unhealthy it's a way to make people reconcile & negotiate.
