I think this is really interesting.

This chart shows the 7-day rolling average of new cases in Salt Lake County (red) and rest of the state (gray). The mask mandate went into effect June 25. #utpol
Spokesman for SLCo Health: "In recent days, Salt Lake County cases have been a lower share of the state’s total cases; while we used to consistently be 45–50% of the state’s cases, we are now around 35% most days.” (Today they were 26%) … more … #utpol
SLCo spox continued: "We don’t have data that shows face coverings are the definitive reason for our recent improvement (as compared to other interventions like social distancing), but it’s certainly possible the face covering requirement is having a positive effect …” #utpol
“… on Salt Lake County case counts, especially compared to what we’re seeing in the rest of the state.” #utpol
Correlation does not equal causation. Lots of factors. Plenty of unknown unknowns. Maybe this is the rest of the state being really dumb. Whatever. The data is what it is and “it’s certainly possible the face covering requirement is having a positive effect.” #utpol
Wanted to put this over here too. Slco revised their reporting today so their data lines up with the state data now. Here’s the update.
