Our update is published. States reported record tests completed (852k) and cases (77k) for the second day in a row, as well as 951 deaths.

One significant caveat: the total cases include ~5k cases from a reporting backlog in Texas.
As of today, we’re still not sure how much the new HHS guidelines for hospital data reporting will affect the data states report. So far, it looks like two states, Idaho and Missouri, have run into trouble. Here’s what the MO Hospital Assoc. had to say:

The Idaho Statesman has more on the situation with Idaho’s state-level access to hospital data. Their most recent hospital data was entered yesterday, though it reflects 7/13—this is a standard lag for this ID data point.

Our national current COVID-19 hospitalizations number did not go down today, but it also didn’t go up as much as it has over the last few days. We won’t really know how much this number is being affected by changes to the reporting guidelines for several more days.
Today, the Midwest, South, and West all reported their highest number of cases since the start of the pandemic.
