About Udhiya (Animal sacrifice) during the Eid Al-Adha by Shaykh Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani Zaria (Rahimahullah).

Udhiya (Layya or ileya) is a recommended Shariah act of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which originated from his father Ibraheem (Abraham) (peace be upon him).
Thus, it is compulsory on every Muslim adult, men & women that have the means to sacrifice an animal. The position of this act of worship isn't MUSTAHABB where one has an option whether to do it or not, as long as the person has the means (the money), then it is compulsory.
The type of animal required for this sacrifice is the most tastiest meat 🥩. This is why, a ram 🐏 is most recommended. This as oppose to the Hadyah sacrifice during Hajj, which is recommended to be done with an animal with most meat quantity, that is why a camel 🐫 & cow 🐮 are
more recommended. However, there's nothing wrong if one slaughters a sheep 🐑 or a goat 🐐, or a camel 🐫 or cow 🐮 during Udhiya, even though a ram 🐏 is more recommended. This means, if for instance I kept aside a sum of N300, 000 for this year's Udhiya. Instead of me to use it
to buy one cow 🐮, it is more recommended that I buy 6 rams 🐏 each worth 50k.

Also, a single ram for instance can suffice a household (a man & his family), but two or more people cannot contribute money to buy a ram for this particular act of worship.
For instance, it is not allowed that a man who is a civil servant & his wife, also a civil servant contribute to buy a ram with the intention of Udhiya. But it is acceptable for them to contribute & buy a cow, or camel up to 7 of them. Not more than 7 people per cow or camel.
It is permissible to sacrifice a male or a female animal, & the animal must be free of any defect or wound, that is obvious, like an animal that is limping, with one leg, has its tail cut off, or its ears cutoff, or one that is blind or has eye problem that it can't see well.
It is more recommended to sacrifice an animal that is either white but has on its body some strives of black color or a black ram with some white touches across its body, or white & brown.

Again, the animal must be very healthy, not an emaciated one that looks sick & bonny.
It is recommended that the person who is doing the sacrifice slaughters the animal by himself, unless if he cannot do that, then he can delegate it to someone else. If one intends to sacrifice an animal this month of Dhul Hijjah, it is recommended that himself, his wife & his
entire household refrain from trimming his fingernails, barbing his hair or removing any hair from his body until after the sacrifice. This applies to his wife & everyone in the household. The wife too should avoid plating her hair or anything that can cause removal of hair.
The day of the Udhiya is on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Eid. It is not permissible to slaughter the sacrificial animal until after the Eid prayer has been completed. By completion, it means the Eid prayer ground you attended & your Imam has slaughtered his own animal.
When you return home, you can now slaughter yours even if other people that prayed in other places haven't completed their own prayers. It is reported in a Hadith, in Sunan Al-Kubrah of Imam Al-Bayhaqi (RH) that, after the sacrifice, the Prophet (SAW) do have the liver cooked for
him to eat first, but this Hadith is a WEAK narration (Dha'eef). Therefore, you have no obligation to work with this, bcos it is not authentic from our noble Prophet. Thus, you can eat from any part of the animal to begin with. It is not permissible to sell any part of the
animal sacrificed. But one can give out of it as gift or charity to Muslims & even non Muslims can benefit from the gift not the Sadaqah.

It is an innovation in religion to keep any part of the meat for what we see in some parts of our communities, Takutaha celebration.
The Takutaha is celebrated during Muharram & some people do keep part of the Udhiya meat 🥩 to celebrate that event. Both the celebration & keeping the meat for that event have no basis in Islam. They're both innovations (Bidi'ah). This however doesn't mean you cannot keep part
of the sacrifice for as long as you want, in a healthy way eating it time to time, as long as any innovative tone isn't attached.

With regards to the Eid prayer, it consists of two rak'ahs. The first Rak'ah has 7 Takbeers while the second Rak'ah has 5 Takbeers.
The 7 Takbeers in the first Rak'ah excludes the Takbeer of Ihram (the first Takbeer of commencement of the prayer), while the 5 Takbeers in the second Rak'ah also excludes the Takbeer one does while rising up to the standing position to begin the second Rak'ah.
Each rak'ah consists of Faatihah & any Surah. But it has been reported in the Sunnah that the Prophet (SAW) do recite what he usually recites during Jummat prayer, like Fatihah & Surah Al-Ghashiyah, Surah Al-A'lah or Surat Qaf & so on. The recitation in both rak'ahs is openly.
Please note that, a common mistake many people do is raising the hands to the level of the ears during all the Takbeers during Eid prayers. This is wrong. Raising the hand to the ear level is done only during the Takbeer of Ihram, the first Takbeer in the first Rak'ah.
With regards to someone who unfortunately missed the Eid prayer, it has been reported from the pious predecessors that he or she will pray four rak'ahs. This is the Fatwah from Abdullahi Ibn Mas'ud (RA), companion of the Prophet (SAW), as reported by Imam Abubakar Ibn Abi Shaybah
with an authentic chain of narration.

With regard to the Takbeers of Eid, we are recommended to start such Takbeers from the morning of the Eid day. The Takbeers are:

ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR (continuously). Or ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR, LAA ILAAHA ILLAALLAHU, WALLAHU AKBAR,
ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR, WA LILLAHIL HAMD.

All these Takbeers were not heard directly from the Prophet (SAW), rather from his companions & thus, while some do only the Takbeer, some add the Tahmeed (as written above in bold letters). So anyone we do, it is acceptable.
With regards to the days & amount of these Takbeers, what is most authentic is that we should do them on the day of Eid & three days after Eid, not until the Zuhr prayer of third day as we might have learnt earlier, because the Sahabah do it all the day even after Zuhr, & not
only to be said after the fact ve daily prayers, but we can say them all the time, in any place, while driving, while jogging, while walking as far as the place is a pure place, not toilet & so on. It is not read inside our minds. Rather, we are expected to pronounce it aloud.
Umar Ibn Khattaab (RA) do recite the Takbeers even in the market & people hear him reciting it, which means he isn't dpikg in his mind. The Sahabah also do that, even inside their shops.

May Allah accept from us & from you.
