I follow a lot of return to class/campus debate across the US & beyond, at all levels, PreK-PhD let’s say.

Summary: humanity wants to go back to the #beforetimes, we long for it.

Everyone WANTS to be back, everyone also wants to be as SAFE as possible.
Plan makers, both the wizards behind the curtains and most importantly individuals, need to figure out how to walk that tightrope. How to have a plan with flexibility that maintains the inherent rights of parent, student, faculty, etc.

And how to implement by building consensus.
The absolute best plan in the world can fail if individuals don’t also take ownership & embrace it.

And the absolute worst plan can still be successful if individuals are (1) given transparent information, (2) remain free to choose with minimal constraints.
This is much like the core of a free society in general, just applied to an institution (education).

Educational institutions should focus on their values: delivery of transformative education.

Then let their faculty/students focus on innovative ways to deliver/consume that.
Think of ed institutions as laying ground rules: identifying goals, focusing on the finish line.

Then gather talented people, who should be able to be trusted to get everyone through the final ribbon.

If there are gaps, put in help that moves things forward WITH flexibility.
At the end of the day, there is no single perfect plan. I haven’t seen one yet that people didn’t spend time pointing out the flaws.

But I do feel that one truth remains: education is meant to help and not harm people & I continue to build my own classroom/life on that.
Thank you for coming to my #TEDTalk 😉 and #HappyTuesday go crush it.
