DHS is using the hotels as secret sites to detain children to circumvent the law. These hotels are black sites to hold children on the way to expulsion without anyone finding out and no due process. apnews.com/c9b671b206060f…
We KNOW that thousands of people have been expelled without their day in court, including children in these hotels. Without due process, there’s no paper trail, so it’s very hard to hold the gov't accountable and get the kids home. Especially since we’re sheltering in place.
We know there are masses of children, but we don’t know their names. We don’t know how many there are exactly, because they don’t even get issued case numbers. They’re detaining kids in black sites completely outside of the "normal" immigration system.
The only reason we know about the children in McAllen is that we investigated. Otherwise, NO ONE would know that these kids were in that hotel if we didn’t go and find them. The government is expelling asylum seekers— even children— without a trace.
The secrecy is DHS' strategy to inflict mass harm to immigrants and asylum-seekers.
