The United States Postal Service turns 50 next year — but will it survive to see its birthday? A thread 👇
The USPS has been hit hard by the pandemic, and it’s running out of money — fast.

Back in April, Trump blocked a congressionally approved emergency bailout for the USPS and threatened to veto future aid unless the agency quadrupled its shipping prices.
In May, the USPS Board of Governors announced a new postmaster general: Louis DeJoy, a North Carolina businessman who has donated millions to the Republican Party (including Trump’s campaign).

Keep this in mind for later.
Since taking over, DeJoy has issued several measures that would effectively slow down mail delivery.

According to a memo from mid-July, DeJoy told carriers to leave mail behind at distribution centers if it delayed their routes.
