Every few days the national media runs with this spin focused on one Governor. They've been running practically the same article since March, and they just ignore anything that doesn't fit (including the extensive failures of certain Dem governors).
The tell is what they leave out. No similar story about Gavin Newsom despite CA experiencing a very similar spike. In fact, one of their main (& dishonest) metrics here is cases exceeding NY (which ignores testing differences), but CA actually has more than FL.
I also like how they wrote about possible causes for the spike that started around Memorial Day but magically left out any mention of protests that started the week before.
They also mentioned Jones firing without detailing her credibility issues and evidence against her.

Again, I could take these articles more seriously if WaPo hadn't been publishing them on a daily basis since late March while FL had some of the lowest numbers in the country.
Don't believe me? Here are 4 WaPo articles from April 1st and 2nd. FL would have among the lowest COVID-19 case/deaths counts for months after this.
Btw this had to be my favorite article from Milbank on April 21st on how Georgia "leads the race to become America's No. 1 death destination". He also argued FL wasn't far behind.

Deaths per 100K:

NY- 168
NJ- 177
FL - 26
GA - 32
Putting aside WaPo avoiding a deep-drive into the states that actually failed by any reasonable metric (NY, NJ etc), CA is experiencing a similar spike to FL. Here is the only similar article for CA:

Instead of blaming Newsom, it's treated as a surprise. "Even California..."
