As is often the case with authoritarians, the stated goal is the opposite of the real goal. Trump wants war, not law and order. He wants chaos and fear up until Election Day. usatoday.com/story/news/nat…
Those still committing violence and destruction in the streets are happy to help Trump. It’s not an accident. They would be marginalized by Biden, while rage against Trump justifies every excess.
Nonviolent protest, focused on the issues, is not the same as resistance and conflict for the sake of it, which quickly hijacks the issues and radicalized the people—which is what extremists on both sides want.
Trump will do everything he can to put violence in the news for the next 100 days. Sending his “little green men” into cities is just the start. Protesters can either help him or expose him as the would-be despot he with nonviolence.

If you cannot deny the facts, hide them. If you cannot hide the consequences, blame someone else for them. Trump would tear down the US ability to fight Covid before accepting any responsibility.
The goal isn't just to manufacture better numbers. It's to create alternative narratives for Trump's followers to grasp in his defense. It's the illusion of confusion, to deny objective reality exists.
You'll see more of this as the death toll mounts. Not this or that is true, but "who knows?" They hope to be forgiven for ignorance for what we well know to be incompetence and malice.

Good piece. "The demonization mob" in the US isn't centrally controlled like the USSR's, but it's influenced by extremists who see it, accurately, as a path to personal power. They want outrage, not justice. tabletmag.com/sections/news/…
They should be glad that the United States is such a young country, because going after little statues of Washington & Jefferson (and Grant and Gandhi?!) is easier than tearing down products of slave labor like the Roman Colosseum!
Trump and Trumpism are the clear and present dangers and must be not only defeated, but repudiated completely in 2020. My fear is the pendulum swinging just as far in the other direction, pushed by extremists exploiting that backlash.
