First of all, there is no excuse for mistakes. Period. We take full responsibility for this and cover any damage.
2/ It’s more important to learn from this incident. Bugs are part of dev process. We’ve recently seen that even big co’s like Twitter w more engineers + resources make mistakes. The truth is mistakes are going be made. It’s inevitable. The Q is how do you prep to minimize risks.
3/ At ICON, we try to balance speed (shipping codes) based on our risk assessment. In other words, we prefer to move fast and break things if we can afford it. Sometimes, learning by breaking is cheaper than spending hours on testing.
4/ We’d eventually get to a point where ICON network is large enough so it’s absolutely necessary and more cost efficient to push proposals and codes more slowly and carefully. You’ll know when we get there.
5/ Every mistake looks amateurish and preventable in hindsight. We humans tend to simply overlook answer to easiest question b/c we assume it’s correct. And usually 99 out 100, we are correct.
6/ I don’t lose sleep over mistakes like this. ICONLOOP are pros. They have an extensive experience w enterprises. ICONLOOP sets up enterprises for system failures/errors. This is exactly why we’ve been designing a hybrid blockchain.

Congrats to ICONLOOP w the launch of ‘Shinhan KYC Authentication’ on Zzeung app. Many of you don’t know much about banking + ID system in Korea so I’ll explain in here. Then you’ll know why this news has caught the entire country’s attention.
2/ @markusjayvc is not wrong here, but only partially right. Many of you see this launch impacting 1 bank + customers using SOL app. This is MUCH MUCH MORE than that. This directly impacts the way EVERY KOREAN CITIZEN interacts w the digital world.
3/ In simplest terms, ICONLOOP + Shinhan just launched a DIGITAL ID card. Shinhan verifies if the user is a real person (performs KYC) and issues this ID. This ID is stored in the user’s mobile phone inside Zzeung app. There’s just 1 real copy like your passport or DL.
1/ First, I’d like to congratulate @extendjh and ICONLOOP team for this exciting MyID launch. MILLIONS of ppl will interact with the ICON public network thru this partnership w Jeju Gov't alone. Here’s the official Korean announcement directly from Jeju.
2/ This is real-world use and the level of mass adoption we’ve been aiming for. 15M ppl visit Jeju annually. CJU(Jeju)-GMP(Seoul) is the busiest domestic route in the ENTIRE world. FYI 15M is 30% of Korea's pop and larger than the ENTIRE Seoul pop.
3/ It’s important to note that ALL public chains today have tech limitations for enterprise use. It’s rare for enterprises to go all-in on a new tech. ICON public chain is partially used for this Jeju project which is an enormous progress. THIS IS GLASS HALF FULL FOR NOW, FOLKS.
