No one is buying your B.S., Bateson. Bill 32 is a law written by unscrupulous politicians for unscrupulous employers. It’s about suppressing wages; reducing worker bargaining power; and silencing worker voices. The UCP is a corrupt stain on our province. #FiretheUCP#abpoli
Enough is enough. With the separatists essentially “doxxing” nearly 3 million Albertans and the UCP continuing with their campaign to turn our province into a Trump/MAGA outpost, it’s time for mass protest. May 29 is the day. Put it in your calendar. afl.org/release-separa…
History shows that when governments stop responding to normal democratic signals, citizens need to get louder – and more disruptive.
“We need to take inspiration from people like the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. who famously said that non-violent and disruptive protests are necessary to force powerful interests to negotiate social change.”
These are NOT “public pools” of capital. They are the retirement savings of hundreds of thousands of Albertans. The pension funds are suing AIMCo because AIMCo’s reckless negligence caused huge losses. The UCP’s intervention is outrageous! edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
The VOLTS strategy (which bet billions on the direction of the market, without buying a real assets) was NOT approved by any of the pension funds. But UCP legislation says those funds have no choice but to use AIMCo as their investment manager, no matter how poor the performance.
This is the same outfit that Danielle Smith wants to use if she gets away with pulling Alberta out of CPP to create an Alberta Pension Plan. Our big public sector plans are being held hostage: and now the UCP says they can’t even use the courts to hold AIMCo accountable.
With her decision to strip teachers of their fundamental democratic rights, Danielle Smith has awakened a sleeping giant. Alberta unions are now united in one purpose: topple the UCP. Organizing a towards a general strike will be part of our strategy to make it happen.
“This government wants to take that power — the power of collective action — away from workers. We are going to find ways to take that power back.”
In an emergency meeting tonight, the leaders of almost all of Alberta’s public and private unions unanimously agreed to send a message to Premier Danielle Smith, warning her not to use the Notwithstanding Clause against striking teachers. See full text of the statement below 💥👇
Dear Premier Smith,
On behalf of the more than 350,000 working Albertans who we represent, we urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to rule out the use of the Notwithstanding Clause as part of your government’s approach to the teachers’ strike.
Invoking the clause would be unprecedented in the history of Canadian labour relations. It would also escalate the situation from a confrontation between your government and the teachers to a confrontation between you and the entire Canadian labour movement.
Can we please parse in detail some of the BS that our Premier puts forward as facts. Exhibit #1: “
“The guidance that Health Canada gives is that everybody get (flu shots) because influenza can impact negatively both the very young and the very old.” edmonton.citynews.ca/2025/08/23/pre…
The implication here is that Health Canada has NOT given guidance suggesting that everybody get the Covid shot. But, that’s not true! Health Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization has CLEARLY recommended that EVERYONE should get Covid boosters.
Today, our Premier played the victim card and suggested that the federal government’s “attacks on our oil and gas industry” make consideration of separation from the rest of Canada justifiable. The problem is there is ZERO evidence that our energy sector is hurting. (THREAD)
Smith is gaslighting Albertans in an effort to manipulate them into voting for separation. She’s doing this by spinning a web of lies, half truths and innuendo. The truth is we’ve never produced more oil — up by over a million barrels per day since 2014. Some “lost decade”!
And oil and gas profits are up 996% since 2019 (yes, you read that right). These are record profits in the most profitable industry in the country. This is NOT an industry that is being hard-done by the federal government. Don’t buy Smith’s sob story!
