Holding no cash would become an issue during the 1987 crash when investors panicked and Lynch had to sell stocks to meet redemptions..
How the hell did he stay on top of a portfolio of 1,500 stocks?

Ah that's right, he worked nonstop (and had the Fidelity research infrastructure).
European "family vacation," visits 23 companies.
Four years later he was burned out and quit.
