CHICAGO: “We Shall Not Be Moved: A Wake, A Vigil, A Celebration.”
Organizers granted me with advanced permission to live tweet. I agreed to hold off on pro photos. Being mindful of my privilege as a cis-man, I want to be highly respectful. This is not MY space. #ChicagoProtests
This is the Beautiful singing of Shantel Cribbs. (IG/shanydrenee)
The weather is beautiful, birds are chirping, the grass is swaying so gracefully, people are wearing white for solidarity, ants are crawling around, no CPD. This is peace.
Per the event’s toolkit: “The shrine is for Black Trans folks, Black women, and Black sex workers to honor and mourn the lives of those lost. White folks you can leave offerings at another time. Please respect this space.”
For a sec, I considered giving props to @Chicago_Police BUT, as I walked by, one officer sarcastically says, “Thanks for recording me bro.” (I wasn’t) His partner tells him to “stop!” I didn’t give him an earful because I have a bus to catch, but why do they ALWAYS want problems?
