Sadly the only way to keep any form of stability in my 1 month old @Surface_UK... Yes that's an ice block... Yes... A) I'll be resetting it (backing it up as I type). B) I'll be filing a service call if that doesn't work. C) yes, that's an ice block! Haha
The only thing I'm doing right now is using @MacriumReflect to image the SSD...
Without the ice block... Even at roughly 30% CPU, throttling occurs and my CPU runs down at 0.6 - 0.8GHz and everything is laggy as hell. The only way to work around that is to keep flicking between power modes. But even that fails after a while.
Since I've had it, the fan has almost constantly been on... Points to a fault with cooling somewhere maybe. We'll see after a completely clean reinstall of windows. But I don't hold out much hope...
Sadly, as this is my main Dev machine, it's going to impact my business being without it, so I need to carefully plan when I return it... Especially if the return lead times are impacted by COVID. Frustrating...
For reference... The room temp is currently 23.5 deg C.
I have got the @MicrosoftUK Complete Service Plan... But I've got no clue what extra benefit that gives me in these circumstances... Shame there's no store nearby as I believe they do a straight swap under those circumstances...
Removed the ice block and applied a bit of pressure (Sky Go) in high perf mode... But still only 30-50% CPU... Already throttling after roughly 15 mins...
Switch to OBS which is only doing NDI on this machine, with below 30% CPU and boom... Drops below 1GHz and the lag begins...
Minimising OBS, but leaving it running helps the GPU, but not the CPU speed... Seems the culprit is related to the GPU perhaps...
For reference, this is just a case and point... I don't run my Surface with an ice block behind it, as that would be irresponsible!
