I’ve had it with all the sanctimonious gaslighting spewing from Alberta conservatives about a damn mug. And the false equivalence! Here’s a thread giving examples of what UCP supporters have done to “political discourse” in our province. #AbLeg#abpoli
Unprecedented number death threats against a sitting Premier. Targeted not only because she was NDP, but also because she’s a woman.
Here’s a particularly awful one...
They used a cutout of her face as target practice
Misogynist attacks against left wing women have become “the new normal” in Alberta.
And it’s not just right-wing randos posting from their basements. The misogyny is coming from sitting UCP MLAs ... while actually sitting in the Legislature.
Of course, women are not the only targets. Any politician who isn’t conservative enough will do.
And, of course, implied violence seems to be just fine.
In fact, attacks on left-of-centre politicians and citizens is so popular among centre segments of the right, it has spawned a cottage industry of nasty decals.
Honestly, who in Alberta hasn’t seen stickers and decals like this? On any given day. In any given corner of our province.
So spare me your fricking pearl clutching about one fricking mug!
Oh, one last thing. Here’s the mug that spawned the outrage of Kenney’s supporters. It’s locally made right here in Alberta. You know what to do. Bottoms up! majestyandfriends.com/products/subtl…
I was hesitant to post this one. But it really shows how bad things have become at the bottom of the right-wing echo chamber.
These are NOT “public pools” of capital. They are the retirement savings of hundreds of thousands of Albertans. The pension funds are suing AIMCo because AIMCo’s reckless negligence caused huge losses. The UCP’s intervention is outrageous! edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
The VOLTS strategy (which bet billions on the direction of the market, without buying a real assets) was NOT approved by any of the pension funds. But UCP legislation says those funds have no choice but to use AIMCo as their investment manager, no matter how poor the performance.
This is the same outfit that Danielle Smith wants to use if she gets away with pulling Alberta out of CPP to create an Alberta Pension Plan. Our big public sector plans are being held hostage: and now the UCP says they can’t even use the courts to hold AIMCo accountable.
With her decision to strip teachers of their fundamental democratic rights, Danielle Smith has awakened a sleeping giant. Alberta unions are now united in one purpose: topple the UCP. Organizing a towards a general strike will be part of our strategy to make it happen.
“This government wants to take that power — the power of collective action — away from workers. We are going to find ways to take that power back.”
In an emergency meeting tonight, the leaders of almost all of Alberta’s public and private unions unanimously agreed to send a message to Premier Danielle Smith, warning her not to use the Notwithstanding Clause against striking teachers. See full text of the statement below 💥👇
Dear Premier Smith,
On behalf of the more than 350,000 working Albertans who we represent, we urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to rule out the use of the Notwithstanding Clause as part of your government’s approach to the teachers’ strike.
Invoking the clause would be unprecedented in the history of Canadian labour relations. It would also escalate the situation from a confrontation between your government and the teachers to a confrontation between you and the entire Canadian labour movement.
Can we please parse in detail some of the BS that our Premier puts forward as facts. Exhibit #1: “
“The guidance that Health Canada gives is that everybody get (flu shots) because influenza can impact negatively both the very young and the very old.” edmonton.citynews.ca/2025/08/23/pre…
The implication here is that Health Canada has NOT given guidance suggesting that everybody get the Covid shot. But, that’s not true! Health Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization has CLEARLY recommended that EVERYONE should get Covid boosters.
Today, our Premier played the victim card and suggested that the federal government’s “attacks on our oil and gas industry” make consideration of separation from the rest of Canada justifiable. The problem is there is ZERO evidence that our energy sector is hurting. (THREAD)
Smith is gaslighting Albertans in an effort to manipulate them into voting for separation. She’s doing this by spinning a web of lies, half truths and innuendo. The truth is we’ve never produced more oil — up by over a million barrels per day since 2014. Some “lost decade”!
And oil and gas profits are up 996% since 2019 (yes, you read that right). These are record profits in the most profitable industry in the country. This is NOT an industry that is being hard-done by the federal government. Don’t buy Smith’s sob story!
I’ve been thinking a lot about JD Vance’s speech in Munich. It’s outrageous, yes. But it’s also important because it’s basically the MAGA crowd telling on themselves. Their strategy involves pulling out all the stops (misinformation, voter suppression etc) …
… to win one election, then using that democratic mandate to basically make sure that there’s never a truly democratic election ever again. The fact that Europe has figured this out has the Trump/Putin crowd freaked out. So, by scolding the Europeans for cracking down on …
…Musk and foreign-funded election interference, Vance is actually telling the Europeans (and us, here in Canada) exactly what we need to do to defeat the MAGA/Putin axis from taking over our democracies.
