"undemocratic unaccountable Eu Commission president" line is still being played out
The Eu Commission president, which is a civil service job is not unaccountable
He/She is accountable
Subordinate to
The European Council
They are the 27 elected heads of the EU member countries
Until recently it was 28 as Johnson was one of the 28
European Council (27 elected PM/President) of the EU member countries select who they would like as C-P
MEP's then vote x2 if they approve 3 months apart, basically a try before you buy
The European Council 27 can not be in Brussels every day
So the EU 27 vote who they want to be their day to day running of the EU person (EU president)
Until recently it was Donald Tusk
European Council (27 elected PM/President) sent policy on where would like the EU to make law on
Commission then drafts laws in these areas of policy, they can NOT draft laws in areas the European Council has not set policy
MEP's we voted for
And
The council of ministers, these are the ministers from EU members, example if a health matter, Matt Hancock would be present with the other 27 health ministers
Both debate and make amendments
Yes or No
But its not that simple
A points system is used
61% is Yes
60% and below is No
European Council (27 elected PM/Presidents) can veto the law at the final reading stopping it cold
So the there is heck of a lot democracy in how these laws come to be.
A long long way away from the "undemocratic unaccountable Eu Commission president" lies isn't it?
Chairman
Word President is used
President: 1 an official chosen to preside over a meeting or assembly
Its the UK hang up on US Presidents that Farage & co exploited to maximum effect when they knew better
