THREAD
1/ Friends have recently told me they were happy the @NBA is back because it made things feel “normal”.

I told them I don’t want things to feel normal, because they aren’t.

Remember that when the privileged are allowed to feel comfortable, *nothing* will change.
2/ I want us all to feel uncomfortable.

Discomfort is necessary for change.

If you look around, especially at those who are wealthy, privileged, eager to opine on the hypothetical bc they aren’t actually on the frontlines— look closer and you’ll see complacency.
3/ If you see your parents die or your kids gets sick, you’ll be screaming in the streets, not posting about what your room is rated during your tv interview.

People are suffering — esp already vulnerable people. And I fear that elites are largely removed from that reality.
4/ When we hit our peak in MA months ago, this happened to patients that I cared for. I will never forget a man whose parents both got ill—father passed away w/in a day— & son was sick in the ED himself, not able to be at the bedside. This is not the story of one, but of *many*
5/ I’ve said it before— I’ll say it again: our sense of collective urgency at a grassroots level is exponentially lower than our rate of #covid19 spread, and that’s not a sustainable disconnect.

We literally have new states leading the next surge—& recovered ones ⏫ again
