Open comment is next. List of speakers here: www-static.bouldercolorado.gov/docs/August_4_…
Prob gonna take this time to eat some food, feed my dogs and generally stretch, but I'll let you know of anything interesting/important. I recognize some names so .... it will probably be at least interesting.
Aisling Pigott, a Bedrooms for People organizer (seriously, how many ppl do they have??): This is a presidential election year. More younger ppl will vote. "I suspect high turnout is one reason council is fighting to keep this measure off the ballot.”
That campaign filed a lawsuit yesterday to try and win placement on the ballot. In case ya haven't heard. (But you probably have.)
William McGrew from NEWR is taking down council's suggestions to futz with the measure. (They were originally just going to do an alternative to add in rental assistance but Wallach, Weaver and Yates yesterday proposed A LOT of changes)
"This initiative represents years of work" by our volunteers, McGrew says. "We are not amenable to such changes. ... We will happily exercise our prerogative to run the original initiative."
I'll write about this later in the week, depending on what council decides tonight.
We're at 4 speakers and 3 of them are Bedrooms organizers.

There are more organizers of the Bedrooms campaign than there are members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Suzanne Bhatt argues that we should allow people to vote (on the muni) by not allowing them to vote (on the settlement with Xcel)
Up to 4 Bedrooms organizers
Can we get a photoshop of the Count from Sesame Street counting things but it's actually just Bedrooms Are For People organizers?
Lucy Carlson Krakoff is referencing Warren, possibly as a way to encourage council to support Bedrooms Are For People.

Bold of her to assume council members are Warren supporters....
5 Bedrooms speakers
Sammie Lawrence is apparently leaving Boulder. You'll remember him as the black, disabled man who was arrested while filming police interacting with unhoused persons.
He's breaking something I'm looking into: Officer Waylon Lolotai has apparently been put on administrative leave.

Have not confirmed with BPD yet.
A local group surfaced Lolotai's social media activity, which glorified violence against civilians.
6 Bedrooms organizers.
7
Sara Campbell calling out Young and Yates, who moved here for jobs from elsewhere (Joseph, Swetlik, Friend and Wallach also moved here but she doesn't mention them) but making it harder for other people to do the same bc they got here later.
Nagle was born here. I'm not sure about Brockett or Weaver.
Which is actually the first time I ever thought about how many council members are *from* from Boulder.
What is the sound of an echo on Zoom?
Our first anti-Bedrooms speaker! Diane Curlette: The campaign has "vilified city council in the media."

They are "bullying, demanding and entitled," she says.
She must have read Yates' recap of the process, which left out a lot. That's the trouble with getting your news from the government. They're separate for a reason.
And yet he has 4,000+ subscribers.
I have ~1,200.
8 Bedrooms organizers. (I think)
Also 4 anti-Xcel settlement speakers.
9 Bedrooms organizers!
And 3 references to the past strong presence of the KKK in Boulder County.
SarahDawn Haynes: Council is inhibiting progress.
"Not you Junie, Rachel, Aaron, Adam. You're cool."
Cedar Barstow is such a great name.
(She's Bedrooms organizer No. 10, btw.)
11 Bedrooms organizers.
12 Bedrooms organizers!
Also, I love when people reference my reporting to hold elected officials accountable.
Finally tally: 12 of 19 speakers were Bedrooms organizers.
