Camila Cabello taking a stand AGAINST racism + support to minorities & PoC since late 2012: a thread
(Note: this is only one aspect of Camila’s activism which also includes LGBT+ & women’s rights, mental health awareness, anti-bullying, support to Muslims, highlighting crises around the world e.g Syrian & Palestinian refugee crisis, environmental awareness, COVID relief etc.)
1) BY LATE 2012, Camila’s awareness was clearly increased as evidenced by her supportive reblogs on a personal tumblr which was then unknown to fans. She stopped using this account the same year, but continued to show her support on a new account.
2) IN 2013, Camila took responsibility & apologised for ignorant jokes on social media from a few years ago. She has openly addressed this twice more and remained apologetic, in Feb 2018 & Dec 2019.
^ She assured that she had learnt and would continue to use her platform to fight against injustice & inequality.
3) FROM EARLY 2013, Camila continued to actively share posts against racism and raised awareness on her new tumblr account ‘waakeme-up’, which she continued to use till 2016:

4) THROUGHOUT 2016, Camila also remained vocal in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on social media:

At a point in 2016, a hate train began among 5H fans, which included some C fans’ racial attacks against Normani. Camila spoke up against these and called her fans out, saying she would never stand for racism. She has also blocked fans showing hate:
Camila’s first project with Save the Children in Oct 2016 was in the form of the Love Only T Shirts which would contribute 100% of proceeds to uplifting girls from poverty stricken areas around the world:
5) IN THE YEAR 2017, through her Twitter and IG, Camila spoke on the Charlottesville attack carried out by a white supremacist. She continued to advocate for an inclusive America free of racism and hatred throughout this year:
She took part in the ZeddxACLU concert to raise funds that provided vulnerable minorities with legal services, and sent the message of the #RESIST movement through her participation:
From the start of her solo career in 2017, Camila has included in her own team and collaborators a diverse group of people that surround her including Black, Asian and Hispanic people:
Camila wrote an open letter chronicling her own journey as an immigrant, stating they were essential to the country and calling out Trump’s xenophobic policies throughout the year at multiple occasions.

She also partnered with Lin-Manuel Miranda for his Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria benefit track Almost Like Praying, with proceeds going towards The Hispanic Federation’s Unidos Disaster Relief Fund:

With immigrants continuing to be a target of Trump’s policies, Camila called her fans to action. She went on to donate all proceeds of her massive hit song Havana to the Dreamers, also dedicating its video to them:

7) IN 2018, Camila continued her outspoken activism by attending a March For Our Lives rally in New York, to encourage voting against Trump and advocate for gun control. She also took part in Michelle Obama’s College Signing event that raised funds for public schools:

Camila has worked to aid children in need, especially those from impoverished countries around the world for years, working with Children’s Health Fund, Global Emergency Response and Save the Children:
In Nov 2018, Camila furthered her commitment to Save the Children by becoming an official ambassador. She also donated proceeds from her Puerto Rico concert to their Hurricane Maria Relief Fund, and paid a visit to the affected families:
8) IN 2019, Camila took use of her Grammys opening performance to send an anti-Trump message: “Build Bridges, Not Walls”. As the first Latin woman to open the Grammys, she turned her show into a tribute to Latin culture:
The same year, she donated $10,000 to a homeless Nigerian child refugee and encouraged others to donate as well, ultimately far exceeding the goal to raise $254,448 so that the family now has a home and the resources they require:
In Sep, Camila gave a speech at a Save the Children event where she vowed to raise $250,000 for the charity which works to uplift poverty- and war-stricken families by providing basic resources like health, education etc. including in Africa, the Middle East and Asia:
In Nov, Camila funded the Africa Heartwood Project that cares for orphans in Liberia. To raise awareness about this project, she added a sweet recording of the children playing a clapping game at the start of her single Living Proof off Romance, urging fans to contribute as well:
9) DURING 2020, Camila was 1 of the first celebs to speak on the wrongful murder of George Floyd to her 50M IG followers (May 27). She also cancelled a planned virtual concert in respect. Her activity including the accounts followed + posts liked till now are about the situation:
Camila was seen on May 31st with her mother & boyfriend Shawn Mendes attending BLM protests in Miami. She was also sighted the day before this on May 30th, although there are no pictures as evidence. She did not advertise her attendance on any socials:
Camila’s further efforts in the movement involve spreading awareness to her 50M IG + 11M twitter following, reading & sharing articles, signing & linking petitions, repeatedly donating, contacting government officials to take action and promoting voter registration:
