Ah, the tales of Shikihide's okami-san make it to Nikkan Sports (which is not usually a gossip outlet). Well, sunlight is the best disinfectant. Here are the stories.

One I have heard before is that she diverted the new rice the heya received from supporters to her own household, and left the 4 years old rice for the rikishi to eat.

(A footnote mentions that rice is usually good for a few months under normal storage conditions)

When the oyakata fell ill, he designated her as his "delegate", and the atmosphere in the heya has changed.

It also meant that she was doing the shopping and cooking chanko, so the oyakata wasn't aware of the rice situation (rikishi said it was "unedible").

The COVID situation brought about rules, such as mandatory wearing of socks indoors. This apparently followed a news item about a celebrity, known for wearing shoes without socks, who got infected with COVID.

Use of the keiko-ba (practice grounds) and the shower became subscription-based. That is, one user at a time. There were even times during the basho when only one rikishi was allowed to use the keiko-ba [yes, it sounds as ridiculous to me as it does to you].

In January, some oyakata got worried as Shikihide would not answer his cellphone, and return calls came from the okamisan. They heard say he was unwell and three of them went to visit him. He claimed that it was "a blood pressure problem".

(6/7)
The compliance committee continues its investigation, although Shikihide appears to be on the mend and has taken back his duties. The rikishi wish for "an environment appropriate for sumo".
